If I get a 1Dx then I might also be in the market for a 400 f2.8 prime for sports and some aviation shooting. There seem to be quite a few variations of this lens going back a few years. I'm not sure which would be best.

No way can I afford a 400mm f2.9 IS mkII so don't tempt me! :D

Budget would be somewhere around £4000 so I would be looking at getting a used example. They seem pretty rare though.

I have been reading up on the f2.8 non-IS mkII and the ISmkI. Is the IS worth the extra cash over the other?

Aperture have a couple and I might be going to London next week. Are the prices any good given the ware? I'm not overly bothered about some cosmetic marks.

The non IS is £600 cheaper and better condition but I'm not sure which is best.

Non IS models aren't supported by Canon anymore so the potential for owning an expensive paperweight is much more.

Im no pro but i believe the pro sports guys have the IS switched off, not much point splashing out on the IS if your not going to use it

Is that the mkI and the mkII? I read that the mkII still was supported but the webpage might have been old.

Nikon 400mm f2.8 lenses seem even harder to find that Canon ones! If anyone knows of any for sale let me know. Still deciding on the D3s.
