Ok, heres the scene.

I have a Canon 350d, and a few of the cheapie "beginner" lenses. origionally i was capturing a lot of motorsport (Motor cross etc) so was happy to make do with old "cheapie" lenses incase they were scratched or damaged...

So now im more grown up and a little (tiny bit) more mature. im moving into the "landscape" and "macro" world. i really like the arty farty shots and would like to learn how to capture them myself.

Now, my conundrum is that i have never 100% got along with the 350d, i have a largeish hooter so kept pushing buttons and messing up my shots etc. Im tempted to upgrade to a 30 or 40d, (depending on the right item coming along) as a friend has asked if im interesting in parting with the 350 (as she wants it for her degree course)

So... before i go out and buy myself some lenses and bits and bobs tailered to the shots im after, can anyone suggest if im taking a good step or a pointless step?

My Step dad has a 5d (which i would gladly "half inch..." as i love it. but cant afford or warrant spending that much money...)

Ps. if i did it would be 2nd hand...

Im keen to hear people views on the 30 and 40d, and anything else thats similar money that might be worth a looking.

Cheers

Joe

Hi Joe, I'm in quite the same area as you - wanting to upgrade from the 350d, I'm looking at these as posibilities:

40d - Good solid semi-pro body
50d - Slight upgrade/downgrade (according to some) from the 40
550d - HD 1080p video although isn't much bigger than the 350 apparently
5d mk1 - One of the best cameras for landscape images, relatively cheap second hand, very big and 'pro-ish'.

I'm waiting for someone on here to put an ad up who's wanting a 350d as a second camera in trade for one of those, maybe I'll get lucky. :naughty:

haha yea,

Im looking at spending around £250 max for the upgrade to a 30 or 40d,

really cant afford any more...

Also after a nifty fifty (to play with)

ive read a lot of contradicting opinions of 350d vs 30d (and whether there is much of a difference) so would be interested ot hear of peoples opinions?

I went from the 350D to the 40D a while back for a few reasons and I was very glad I had made the change.

firstly I found the 350D too small although the grip made a big difference to that. Mainly I wanted a faster FPS as I shot a lot of motorsport but also bigger screen, spot metering and an overall much better feel to the camera, especially since i started spending more money on lenses as they just felt wrong on the 350D.

Unfortunately I had to sell all my gear early last year but have just bought a 30D to get back into the swing of things and I'd say even that would be a worthy upgrade to a 350D, although if funds allowed I would have preferred a 40D.

cheers Lee,

Thats really great (reinforced my thoughts)

im currently after a 50mm f1.8, and keeping an eye out for a 30d (unless a 40d appears for good money.)
