what he said. It does sound a though she has some form of dysmorphic disorder, and needs some help rather that anything else
To the layman that just means she's fat. It's actually more specifically a form of fetishism as opposed to body dysmorphic disorder, although the former is often rooted in psychological problems, like the latter. In the case of this woman, there are clearly issues stemming from her feelings of failure earlier in life with regards to her weight. And in cases like this, there's often a coercive partner involved too, because people don't generally eat themselves to this size all on their own.
There is some stupid society in America for 'fat acceptance'. I bet if you asked them if they could have a magic wand that returned them to a normal weight without dieting or any inconvenience they'd snap your arm off.

Theres a whole heap of dysmorphic disorders, and without being funny, aside from it sounding like she has one
Dysmorphia is a obssessive, false view of your appearance

onona said:I don't wish to be a pedant, but it's not a form of body dysmorphia. Dysmorphia is a obssessive, false view of your appearance - ie a thin person who remains convinced that they're fat, despite seemingly obvious evidence to the contrary. This is something fundamentally different, although equally rooted in the psyche. While her behaviour is obssessive, like dysmorphia, she has a clear goal based on an accurate view of how she currently looks. She's driven not from a perceived flaw in her appearance, but rather by an obssessive attempt at reaching an "achievement"; basically, it seems she's dealing with her feelings of failure at having not managed to lose weight earlier by turning the weight gain into an accomplishment instead. This, combined with support from a fetishist online community (mentioned in the article) and certainly at least one or two people in her immediate surroundings, has fundamentally shifted her way of thinking about her weight. And not for the better. Deep inside, she's certainly a very unhappy person.

wonders if onona will get the lighthearted banter this time or not

But unfortunately you are being a pedant. You seem to of somehow made an accurate physcogical assessment from a daily fail article. Christ only knows how. And compulsary overeating is a dysmorphic disorder.
onona said:"You seem to of somehow"? What does that even mean? What exactly is your problem? This is a discussion and I'm posting my views.
And no, compulsive over-eating is not a dysmorphic disorder. Eating disorders can be a symptom of dysmorphia, but they're not the disorder themselves. Why don't you actually learn about this stuff before getting into an argument over it? Furthermore, you're continuing to deny the very basic fact that one of the primary defining characteristics of dysmorphia is a false or contrary self view, which is not the case in this particular story.
Honestly, what is up with a certain contingent of posters here who get aggressive and insecure when they encounter someone who seems to be educated about something? For all you know, maybe I know someone with dysmorphia or an overeating problem, hell maybe I even studied psychology - you don't know this, yet you make snarky remarks about my posts in this thread.

Dysmorphia is a obssessive
How long will it take to render her down when she pops her clogs ?
I was just thinking it's a good thing she's not a viking![]()

i just don't get why anybody would want to do that to themselves...........
Person enjoys a drink, person drinks daily for years, person realise they've become an alcoholic, drink leads to loss of job, loss of home, person now living on the street. person very depressed, best part of persons day is now looking forward to some alcohol that will inevitably kill them.
Swap food for drink, add a dash of fame/acknowledgement/achievement and hope to the depression and you've got legal human game hunting for the press and its readers!!
I'm not sure if she's sicker than the society that put her their...![]()
