21,000 calories a day until I'm 115 stones

Just wondering if she would curb her gluttony if she went to visit this poor chap.

Same with the program man versus food. Who thought of that one :cuckoo:

what he said. It does sound a though she has some form of dysmorphic disorder, and needs some help rather that anything else

It's actually more specifically a form of fetishism as opposed to body dysmorphic disorder, although the former is often rooted in psychological problems, like the latter. In the case of this woman, there are clearly issues stemming from her feelings of failure earlier in life with regards to her weight. And in cases like this, there's often a coercive partner involved too, because people don't generally eat themselves to this size all on their own.

She's off her rocker. Next news will be of her shock death from obesity.

Could have done without that photo of her semi naked. Barf.

There is some stupid society in America for 'fat acceptance'. I bet if you asked them if they could have a magic wand that returned them to a normal weight without dieting or any inconvenience they'd snap your arm off.

To the layman that just means she's fat. :D

There's a UK branch of it too:

I find it very hard to believe that the overwhelming majority of overweight people (excluding, obviously, the fetishist supersize types) really like being fat, and I think that given the choice, they'd rather be thin.

Theres a whole heap of dysmorphic disorders, and without being funny, aside from it sounding like she has one, you couldn't hope to provide any more accurate information 'then it sounds like she has one of them and needs help rather then ridicule' from a daily fail article.

Some do involve partners, but many more don't

She's playing the fame game as well. Which is a good way of funding her appetite and employ a bum wiper.

I don't wish to be a pedant, but it's not a form of body dysmorphia. Dysmorphia is a obssessive, false view of your appearance - ie a thin person who remains convinced that they're fat, despite seemingly obvious evidence to the contrary. This is something fundamentally different, although equally rooted in the psyche. While her behaviour is obssessive, like dysmorphia, she has a clear goal based on an accurate view of how she currently looks. She's driven not from a perceived flaw in her appearance, but rather by an obssessive attempt at reaching an "achievement"; basically, it seems she's dealing with her feelings of failure at having not managed to lose weight earlier by turning the weight gain into an accomplishment instead. This, combined with support from a fetishist online community (mentioned in the article) and certainly at least one or two people in her immediate surroundings, has fundamentally shifted her way of thinking about her weight. And not for the better. Deep inside, she's certainly a very unhappy person.

But unfortunately you are being a pedant. You seem to of somehow made an accurate physcogical assessment from a daily fail article. Christ only knows how. And compulsary overeating is a dysmorphic disorder.

"You seem to of somehow"? What does that even mean? What exactly is your problem? This is a discussion and I'm posting my views.

And no, compulsive over-eating is not a dysmorphic disorder. Eating disorders can be a symptom of dysmorphia, but they're not the disorder themselves. Why don't you actually learn about this stuff before getting into an argument over it? Furthermore, you're continuing to deny the very basic fact that one of the primary defining characteristics of dysmorphia is a false or contrary self view, which is not the case in this particular story.

Honestly, what is up with a certain contingent of posters here who get aggressive and insecure when they encounter someone who seems to be educated about something? For all you know, maybe I know someone with dysmorphia or an overeating problem, hell maybe I even studied psychology - you don't know this, yet you make snarky remarks about my posts in this thread.

I'm all for people being happy about themselves but surely, as others said, the sheer cost of this is not within her means. I get that people love the look, I don't myself but I appreciate there's something for everyone and she has her fans but surely it's not actually safe at all. Something's not right.

Jesus wept. Talk about pot kettle black....maybe you ought to look at yourself before posting this sort of crap. The only aggressive insecure poster is you.

And for the record I'm not denying anything, but is horrendously obese = beautiful not a false body view?

I'm not really interested in what you studied - but if you had I'm sure you wouldn't associate any eating disorders with fetishism. Incidently by the same token you make exactly the same assumption of me.

I'm still fascinated how you've managed to reach all this from a daily mail article? Actually you know what I'm not seeing as your posting history is full of this level of crap from you I'm not interested.

Well, at least this lady will still be remembered in 100 years time - unlike 99% of us who will be a distant memory.

I find this hard to believe that loved ones have not told her to sort herself out - in any case, she will not be able to shop or feed herself so how will she get food? Is this not the same as poisoning someone?

what amuses me is everyone on here keeps telling everyone else to stop reading the daily mail, yet it seems there is a growing amount of topics on here come from the daily mail website

When she's done, which poor soul has to pull the cork out? :gag:

How long will it take to render her down when she pops her clogs ?

If you think it's just in the states you musnt have seen the new series Big Body Squad. The new teams of Ambulance crew, the new Ambulances and all the other giant medical kit the the NHS has to fund for all these people that cannot curb their eating habits.
Who pays for it all, the same people that pay for their overgrown appitites yes youve guessed it us tax paying hard working none grossly fat people.

i just don't get why anybody would want to do that to themselves...........

obviously something gone a bit wonky with the grey cells up top........... she needs professional help. I fail to see how anyone can consider that an attractive look. By all means, I prefer a little meat on the bones compared to the size zero look... but just wrong wrong wrong.

I was just thinking it's a good thing she's not a viking

I dunno i'm partial to a nice bit of crackling

There are some crematoria that use the left over heat to heat nearby buildings. She'd keep one going for months. Be the one and only useful thing she ever did...

That is ridiculous, why should tax payers fund her crazy mission to become the fattest person in the world.

I think she needs some help...

Fortunately she's in the states so it isnt our problem , and their welfare is so low that she can't possibly be eating all that on the taxpayer - she must have help from her equally deluded husband/family

Person enjoys a drink, person drinks daily for years, person realise they've become an alcoholic, drink leads to loss of job, loss of home, person now living on the street. person very depressed, best part of persons day is now looking forward to some alcohol that will inevitably kill them.

Swap food for drink, add a dash of fame/acknowledgement/achievement and hope to the depression and you've got legal human game hunting for the press and its readers!!

I'm not sure if she's sicker than the society that put her their... ;)

Obesisty is something that I grew up with as a kid. My Granddad on my Mum's side was a "big" man, well when I say big I mean at his peak 24st but was only about 5ft4in tall. His belt was longer than he was tall

His weight "problems" started when he came out of the army, his food intake remained high but activity levels dropped off. He was a painter and decorator by trade and as he started easing off from that the weight started piling on.

Mid/late 50s and he was seriously obese, doctors kept telling him to lose weight and ocassionally he's get below 20st but then lose motivation and put it all back on. He smoked, had the ocassional drink but would always eat junk on top of and in between meals while laying on the sofa!

He made it through to the age of 67 when basically his heart/lungs couldn't cope any more and he passed away. The saddest thing about it was we all knew it was going to happen, he knew it was going to happen but chose to do nothing about it! There's an element of bitterness too as my Dad's Dad was a fit and healthy 65 year old, got lung cancer and died at the age of 66. OK he smoked but so do a lot of people and not everyone gets cancer. You could argue that both premature deaths could have been avoided but IMO obesity is easier to avoid, or at least try and lessen the damage.

You don't become morbidly obese overnight, you have choices along the way. From my own perspective, I was always skinny as a kid, even in my early 20s there was no fat on me but my weight gradually crept up from 11.5st. At the beginning of 2009 I was just over 15st (I'm just under 6ft tall). I'm naturally quite muscular but I felt too heavy so I joined a gym, toned up a bit and lost about half a stone. A couple of holidays and Christmas later I was nearly up to 16st so I made a conscious effort to lose weight again and now I'm under 15st again.

I've rambled on here but the point I'm trying to make is that while there are some medical conditions that cause extreme weight gain, IMHO it's more down to the choices people make and in extreme cases like the woman in question there should be intervention. If a person was anorexic and was in danger of starving to death someone would do something. I'm pretty sure in those cases people have been sectioned and then treated to stop them dying. As far as I can tell, this woman is literally eating herself to death!

I've known a couple of people who struggled with alcohol. They found that the hardest part of recovery was getting to the point where they finally accepted that they had a serious problem, and were able to move beyond the delusions and self denial. Both of them got their lives back, I'm glad to say.

Anyway, good post. I try not to be too judgemental about people, and I'm sure no - mentally healthy - person sets out to become an alcoholic, a drug addict, anorexic or morbidly obese.

I cant find a current article but within the radio news I heard yesterday, they where talking about the hunger hormone ...apparently this can get worse for heavy eating people so rather than being satisfied by the food they've just eaten, they soon get more messages to eat again ...constant hunger pains if you will...its not so much a stretch of the imagination to compare hunger pains to addiction pains ..like the brains will, will have its way ..and as we all know it takes a great deal of dedication and anti-will to fight against such deep mental commands of addiction.

I found this Yale link from last year though.

When one tells a heroin addict that its killing them, your not speaking to the person, your speaking to the drug, and it, particularly heroin, doesn't care because it has more pressing problems to deal with, ie more heroin. ..... so if this hunger research is correct, does that imply a similar 'doesn't care attitude' I wonder, ...the brains logic being, heck I'm going to die sooner of hunger from all the messages im getting, so eat now damn it!

The food attitude thing is quite interesting. Also there have been studies that showed people that drank diet drinks ate more when given free reign at a buffet table. From what I remember it was double blind so they didn't know. It seems sensible to think that your digestive system knows the real calorie content of food. Shame the mind has other ideas.

Diet drinks and low cal foods are usually over processed muck. If you remove the nutritional content from food enough then people still want more food as what they have eaten doesn't have what they need.

I feel so sorry for her children...

It does seem bizarre that we all know where this going to end, including her doctor, yet we are all powerless to intervene.

Shouldn't she be getting some "tough love" and plain talking from her family - because without them her attempt to reach this fatal goal would fail.

They must be in the kitchen all day cooking just to satisfy that colossal calorie intake.

She could not go on without her "team" behind her.

It must be a never ending cycle of kitchen - dining table - bathroom - kitchen
