Nice contribution to my questions and help. :bang:

lets be candid, you have 220 odd posts mostly asking what camera to buy,its a little samey. Just buy one and enjoy taking some photos

I agree, we all go through this, for most people their first DSLR seems like a lot of money but one fact is certain, you will upgrade if you catch the bug. What is the worst that could happen? You buy it, don't get on with it and then just sell it making a small loss and get something else.

When I got my first DSLR I read loads of decent reviews and made a decision based on the money I had at the time and what I wanted from the camera. Sure it was confusing at the time, but I would of been happy which ever way I went.

All this he said she said rubbish is clouding things for you. Don't be put off by a certain model because some random person says it is rubbish. How do you know what their experience is or how bad their brand loyality is. I have to say asking for purchasing advice on forums, especially Brand vs Brand is unlikely to help make your mind up. Sure there are plenty of experienced guys here (I'm not one of them), but brand loyality is a strong and strange thing.

The advice I'll give is read some proper reviews, there are plenty about and norrow it down. I'd honestly say stick with Canon or Nikon, better resale, lens selection etc but that is about it.

Buy it today and take some photos - otherwise its looking like we be here next year asking the same questions..................:bonk:

just buy a camera

stop talking about it and do it.

Bet you don't buy a camera this week either

bet you don't

Seriously though, I know what it's like deciding where to spend your money but the more you procrastinate the further you seem to get from making a decision. All of these cameras can take great pictures. You're worrying over such small differences that won't be noticeable when you have one camera in your hand and nothing to immediately compare it with. It's like when you go to currys and see all those TV's lined up along side each other and you can spot tiny differences between them. If they were in your living room it would be a completely different scenario and you'd probably be happy with most of them.

If it was my money I'd go for the D3000 because I like the Nikon handling and lenses as well as the future upgrade paths.

Now let's see some photos you've taken!

When I bought my first camera I went for the one that was prettiest.

Then I swapped it for what I actually needed.

You'll never know what camera is right for you until you start taking photos - it's all part of the process...
I doubt there are very many here who bought the exact right camera first time.

I can see from your recent posts that you're getting a bit defensive, but all those who have been offering some very good advice are getting a little impatient with you asking the same questions over and over and over again.

You have asked advice and despite all your questions and the advice given it seems to me you will decide for yourself anyway, however, with comments like those below I am surprised you are still being offered advice:shake:

If nobody wants to 'really' help then please feel free to close the thread.

Look, you have not had one good word to say in my thread, thanks. Obviously you are an expert on cameras etc etc. I am not and need a lot of help to get started.

If you have no help then don't post. Simples.

Nice contribution to my questions and help. :bang:

JGBAFC.............:D

I think you should hold off a bit longer until you are really sure, by which point I will have upgraded to a K7 and will have a Km for sale ;)

You can't go wrong with any of the entry level camera's performance wise they will all take a good image. Personally I would stick to the main brands like Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax or Olympus as they're established brands with a range of accessories.

What you need to do is also look at what you want to photograph, the lens is just as if not more important than the body. Does the lens you want match the camera body.

So you also need to check out wants available in their lens range, as a dlsr is a system (interchangeable lenses) not just a camera.

Keep asking questions like is this model better than that model will just get you more confused. Do you research, read some review magazines, websites and handle the camera's and pick one you like. I don't envy you today, there's alot of choice, I had 2 canon's and a Nikon body to choose from when I bought my 1st DSLR.

At the end of the camera body will get replaced (upgraded), there's been 4 upgrades of my camera body since I bought the canon 20D. At the end of the day its you money, you can buy what you want, people will tell you that this camera is better than that, but what you have to decide is which one feels comfortable to hold and use.

Right, update.

Now, i have the choice, today to buy a 2nd hand, 2 week old Samsung NX10 for £320 or a brand new Sony A450 for £299.

The thing that i like about the NX10 is its size. Very compact but still useable like a mirror DSLR.

Which one guys?

Your first post on this thread stated:

Want a DSLR for general family use with maybe some more specialised photography sometime in the future.

So of those 2 - buy the Sony because it's the only one that meets your criteria (a DSLR).

Everyone on here has their own personal opinions and views. Lots of people tell you to 'stick to Nikon or Canon' and yet I just bought a Pentax. Not because I think those people are all wrong and I should ignore them, but because the Pentax seemed the best choice to me and I like the way it felt.

There is no 'right' answer to the question 'which camera is best?'. You need to find the one that's right for you, and no-one on this forum can answer that for you.

Please just buy one. don't buy the samsung, you will regret it and then lens selection is poop. Get either a Sony, Nikon or Canon. It doesn't matter which one you buy with your budget as you are in the bargain basement range and all will be very similar. Get one with the kit lens and start taking photos. Later on, whichever camera you purchased, you will get the urge to upgrade and in any of the three makes above that is very simple. Its even easier if you stick to nikon or canon.

Do it!

Sony, Nikon, Canon. Mmmm, yea.

Just talked to Jessops about the A450 at £299 at Comet. They couldn't match. Said it must be a pricing error!! Don't think so.

My local Camera shop, not Jessops, have the Pentax K-x for £399. Or the D3000 for £349.

It between the A450, D3000 and Pentax K-x now. Just got to decide today as need to buy one as on hols next week! Pentax is the newer one. Great reviews except for the AF points issue. A450, awesome price, watered down reviews on it. D3000, great pics etc etc. Solid but old tech.

See what is going through my mind!!! lol

the sony A450 is deffo £299 as i've just come back from my local comet store, and i'm tempted to get one myself as a second body, and pass on the kit lens as i won't need it.

oh,and at that price it's a bargain and no brainer, plus the in body image stabilisation is a big plus..

I don't know why you keep saying the Nikon D3000 old tech, its less than a year old.............:bonk:

As for the Sony A450 price, its about £90-150 cheaper than anywhere else, so I think Jessops right, that its been miss priced at £299, snap it up if it's that price, especially if it comes with a lens

Go on which one you feel handles best for you, not necessarily what others think. But also consider long term value and the price of accessories such as lenses etc.

if you are looking for a camera go to a major or a samall independant camera shop.

as a general rule comet , dixions , pcworld ect just sell boxes and have a limited knowledge of the products they sell.

i dont know where you are based but

eg in bolton there are two independants Mathers and Wildings

Cheers Steve

Get along to Comet NOW!

+1

If it turns out you don't like the Sony for some reason, you can probably sell it for almost what you're paying for it anyway.

But if it is an error, they'll correct it soon, so don't delay..

The next thing I want to see from the OP in this thread is a picture!

Hooray! If you change your mind you may end up with the whole forum throttling you!

Then again, i may opt for the D3000!! Going to take a butchers today!

:( Make sure today is the day! Bet you are excited! Especially going on holiday next week for its first outing :)

Yea, can't wait. I am swayed to go with the Nikon D3000 though. Feels nice in the hand!! Hoping Jessops will do a price promise as Dixons sell it for £334!!

Cool - safe choice after all that. Nikons & Canons have better resale and lens compatibility.

Let us know when you are £334 poorer!

Wonder if Ladbrokes are giving odds on this.

Yea, can't wait. I am swayed to go with the Nikon D3000 though. Feels nice in the hand!!

That's a perfectly valid reason to choose one over another. Specs are close on the cameras and the personal preferences such as handling and feel are important.

I think I'm leaning towards:

Jessops will not match the £334 Dixons price for the D3000 and he'll come away empty handed...

Should I tell him Pixmania are doing D3000's with 18-55vr for £329?

nooooooooooooooooooooooooo......................it won't be here for his hols

H

If my experience is anything to go by he might not get it for his hols next year:shake:

If you are offering, I will have a £5 and box of jaffa cakes says the OP will buy a camera today :D I have faith!

Hmmmm. Jaffa Cakes, tempted to take that bet:D

If you are offering, I will have a £5 and box of jaffa cakes says the OP will buy a camera today :D I have faith!

and me £5 to the charity of your choice if he's bought a camera and posts a photo before midnight £5 to mine if he doesn't. And a box of Jaffa cakes in the post to the winner?

This just got INTERESTING PEOPLE! :D

Mal... you in? Thats enough betters for me though! (after Mal)

To confirm the OP has to have spent some money on a camera today. They have until tomorrow to post though incase they dont visit TP :)
