No
I was going to treat myself to a little PPV this evening. But that's just stupid money!

It's clearly not as people are willing to pay for it, how much would it cost to go and see the bout, at lot more than that...just watching round one down, well actually listening as I'm on here but my dad is watching it

I guess if someone is a real boxing fan, than maybe it doesn't seem much. I was interested in seeing it, but am not a huge boxing fan. Hence I baulked at the price!

I'm not really a fan of either fighter, but am interested in the result, so am listening on radio 5 live.

Exactly, it's all about perspective.. My dad loves all sport and especially boxing, effectively the PPV is buying a ticket to watch the fight, but from the comfort of your own home.

Fury won

I am a boxing fan but I am not buying into this pay per view rip off that seems to have got a grip on live sporting events

If I want to pay a premium I would go and watch the match live

This is why so many people want to do away with the BBC, because there's so much money to be screwed from the population. How much will watching Wimbledon cost?

When Sky sports first hit our tv's it seemed good value, you got all the top sport in a dainty little package at a reasonable price, then along came SS2, which meant Murrdough could share the most popular sports (ie top flight football) between the channels, all the while charging you extra for the priveiledge, then lo and behold SS3 is born spreading the the top sport even further, costing the punter even more a month to watch the sport he watched a few years prior on SS1!!!!! now there is SS4 and all the other one-off extra cost events. I cancelled my subscription at SS2 and now if I want to watch anything I get down the pub, socialise, get a few ales in my belly and watch the game/s for free.

I paid £21 to watch that crap. Two of the hardest hitters in the game and not one telling punch was landed. Two fannies poncing about the ring tippy tappying at each other. Both should be embarrassed with their respective performances. It was anything but entertaining and certainly not worth the fee.

But the millions who wanted to watch wouldn't fit into any venue.
Why should they be denied the opportunity to watch?
It's not a rip off off at all....they choose to pay. No one is forced, coerced or misled.

The match was free on RTL last night, didn't realise until late though. Just needs a second dish pointed at 19.2E, and you'll get the F1 races the BBC don't provide.

I've never heard that argument for doing away with the BBC there's plenty of reasons why but I've never heard that...as to paying to watch Wimbledon I'd love for that to be PPV as then I'd never have to endure that crap, more over never have to endure programming I actually want to watch being cancelled because a crappy match of tennis has over run...honestly tennis on BBC 1 and 2 at the same time that good use of the BBC isn't it talk about providing a service to all

Of course you do know there are FREE services out there which meant you could watch the boxing using the exact same feed as Sky, all for the princely sum of diddly squat

Please tell more because I'd ditch Sky in a minute.

All depends on how you look at the situation Ruth

It used to be free to watch on the TV until someone decided they could make a lot of money, bought up the rights made the events pay for view

And for some it has denied them the opportunity to watch

It hasn't denied them the opportunity though Keith, merely the opportunity to do so for free.
Still, no one is forced to pay...nor misled to do so.
Pay...watch.
Don't pay, ...don't watch.
It's as transparent a decision as possible.

To be fair Ruth I never said anyone one was forced to pay or misled into doing so

I just wouldn't pay

Absolutely.
But you did say they were denied the opportunity to watch, which is patently incorrect. :-)

In reply to your initial post yes

And it is not incorrect

I know a number of people who used to love going to the boxing but age and disability meant they could no longer get out and about so they would watch the boxing on the TV, now they cant because they simply can not afford to - Which is why I sad for some it has denied them the opportunity to watch

I think we must agree to disagree to avoid the circular travel :-)

Actually it is

Just because you can does not make it legal

You choice at the end of the day
Hang on a minute Keith, you have no idea where or how i watched it, it came from an official feed streamed via Luxemburg Television, i just picked up the link on Reddit which may or not contain links to "dubious website streams"

Northern Ireland is full of illegal sky at the minute. Suppliers are charging around £100 for a box and £70 a year subscription and you get all the channels Inc sport, movies etc. And the boxes are actually better than the sky hd boxes as you can record 3 programs at the same time and watch a 4th. It must be hitting sky hard.

I'll have 2 please. Cheque is in the Post.

Yep, that is the same that is going on here. That person is paying sky for the full package and then sending that signal out to up to 80 other people who have their boxes. The box has to have a permanent internet connection to be able to decode the signal as far as I understand it.

So when someone uses your pictures and makes money from them I am assuming you all will not be coming on here to moan about it

I allways thought the point of the PPV stuff was to get your mates over and share the cost and sup beer?

If its free then its not PPV

I'm not with you the OP states PPV at £16.95p
When I was interested in MMA a few years ago it was get a few cans and all link up at a mates house.

I am quite pleased that boxing is PPP as I think it is barbaric... But there you go; some folks like watching other people attempt to inflict brain damage on a fellow human being....

Yes, was just saying that it was free (legally and illegally), it didn't need to be viewed via Sky which was PPV (mostly)

They don't send the signal out. The end user receives the satellite signal via their own dish, from the Sky satellite.
The box that theyve purchased, then contacts whoever they've bought it from to get the decryption codes, hence why it needs a permanent internet connection.

That's card sharing.

Just because you can receive it and view it, doesn't mean it's legal to view. The stream is not intended for your use (More likely a transponder stream that is intended for other providers to brand and resell).
Nor does it inherently make it illegal per se, but I know which side my money's on.
Just because there's no mechanism to stop you, doesn't mean you shouldn't be.

Don't get me wrong, I saw the last few rounds of the fight and I'm certainly glad I didn't pay for it. :)

*MOD HAT ON*
While it's OK to discuss that actual topic of legally or illegally obtaining PPV fights etc, please don't venture in the realm of specific how-to, links, and dealing or we'd have to close the thread.
