I did the whole of last year's polo season with the 50-500 on a monopod + one tournament hand held!so a monopod will handle it fine. The 150-500 is 68 grams heavier than the 50-500 and a few centimeters longer.
Hello Marc, what monopod do you use?
I got the same lens a few days agoNow I need a bigger bag!
Couple of pics of it on my D300......
At 500mm with hood attached

Also with a D300. I use mine with the manfrotto hygrostatic head, makes it much easier than handholding it for a couple of hours.
some images taken with it here...
but have not had a chance to use it yet with the weather up here. Confirmed.I got one of these on saturdaybut have not had a chance to use it yet with the weather up here.
It states in the manual that it is compatible with both Sigma converters but you will lose autofocus. Can anyone confirm this?
Hi all, can anyone tell me if the Canon EF 1.4X II Extender will fit on to this lens please.
It does seem to produce very good pics for the price.
Thanks
Martin
OK, I'm a Nikon user rather than Canon but I have tried the 150-500 with a Teleplus 1.5x teleconverter and neither the D70 nor the D700 would AF the lens/coverter combo. I used to have the 170-500 Sigma (body focus rather than in-lens) and that DID AF on both bodies with the same teleconverter fitted. With both lenses, better results are had from cropping images from just the lens than using the converter (of course, the Teleplus isn't the best converter in the world which will have an effect!). As a Canon user, you may have problems trying to AF a lens/converter combo that reports as being slower than f/5.6 - a Canon user should be able to tell you.
I recently brought the Sigma 150-500 and was at Wetlands in Barnes, London on Monday. This is one of the shots I got with the lens on a tripod.
It was really my first proper outing with the lens.
