I have to edit the om files loads more than I ever did the sony files. I like the extra reach the om gives me so I might go for the 150-600 or the 300 f4 pro and add the 2 times extender for some extra reach. Looking forward to getting back to the rx10 iv though, I've really missed it. The sony is a much better option than the 100-400 mk2 I think.

That's interesting... as I think I said before I kept expecting the OM1 + 300mm to absolutely destroy the RX10iv and it just didn't (for me anyway). Also I had very high expectations of the OM kit and the reality is you still need to be in the right place at the right time to get a great shot regardless of camera so I was probably destined to end up a bit disappointed. Anyway I hope it's in great condition when it arrives and I look forward to seeing some shots! Cheers :)

Thats a great catch Mike, lovely little birds that we used to call Dab chicks in the old days. :) I'm looking forward some sunny weather down here although none seems to be forecast in the week coming.

These have come out very nicely Alby! I usually don't go above iso800 but maybe I need to increase that to 1600 after seeing these :clap:
 
My Sony RX10 iv seems to be developing a fault - occasionally the viewfinder blacks out and the zooms starts to zoom out on it's own, usually from around 600mm to 24mm, then after a second or two the viewfinder comes back to life and I can zoom out again, sometimes I'm even allowed to take the picture that I was trying to take, but obviously by then the subject has long disappeared.
I've tried the obvious things (cleaning the eye sensor next to the viewfinder, resetting the camera, removing the battery then turning it on for a minute etc) so assume I'm going to have to send it off, but my question is, to who ? - any recommendations ideally from experience much appreciated...
I'm also open to any suggestions of things to try - please and thank you!
Fixation seem to be highly thought of but I don't know of any others.
 
Sorry to hear that Steve - what a pain. There're a few ideas here you could try (the main ones you've already done unfortunately)

  • Perform a Hard Reset: Turn the camera off, remove the battery, and hold the power button down for 30–60 seconds to discharge internal capacitors. Reinsert the battery and turn it on.
  • Check the Eye Sensor: Dirt, dust, or moisture around the viewfinder eye sensor can cause it to falsely activate, turning off the LCD and turning on the viewfinder (which then blacks out if it's malfunctioning). Clean this area thoroughly.
  • Re-initialize Settings: Go to MENU -> Setup (suitcase icon) -> Setting Reset -> Initialize.
  • Check Zoom Functionality: If the zoom is erratic, the camera may be struggling with mechanical tension. Some users have found success by performing zoom actions while pointing the camera straight up or straight down to reduce stress on the internal lens motor.
  • Try "Heat" Method: One user reported that using a hair dryer to gently warm the shutter button/lens area resolved a similar, persistent zooming malfunction.
The last repair I had done (on a Sony A6700) was by AJ Johnstone in Glasgow - they were very busy so it wasn't super quick but I thought they did a decent job.

Thanks for your help Mike, I've already tried all of them except the 'heat' method, so will give that a go..
I'll contact both AJ Johnstone and Fixation for a quote just in case - I'll be in London in a few weeks ago could actually drop it in to Fixation.

Amusingly I was just thinking of selling it, glad I hadn't and a new buyer had this happen straight away.... At least if I do it'll come with a full service!

Could do with a flash tho, tilt n swivel (tilt only would be fine) built in bounce card would be a bonus…

Sounds like a bargain, well done :)

Ref the flash - I am no expert but the Godox units are well regarded and 'relatively' cheap
 
Cheers peeps, ordered the £63 Godox TT350s for delivery today, after some testing it will do the job nicely for now with the knowledge that I can use it as a trigger should I need more power in the future.

But so far 70-100mm head and shoulder shots flash up bounce card out its doing a more than good enough job.. certainly punching above its total £253 price tag.

Be interested to see a price you get for this.

I used mine the other day and was trying to do a long-exposure at night. I used f/16 for the first time and it produces a dark splodge on the image. Don't know if there's dust in the lens or a mark on the sensor, or if its possibe lto correct either. But it's not right.

Hmm - that's annoying. I guess if anything was going to show up dust it'd be f16 on a 1 inch sensor but you're right it shouldn't happen...

I've been quoted £440-ish to sort an electrical fault.
Seems like a lot but the camera is worth nothing if it doesn't work..
Wish I'd sold it a few months ago before this happened (that said it would weigh heavily if I had and knew about it..)
Might have to sell it once it comes back.

The annoying thing is, it's the first time I've ever shot it at those sorts of settings, so it could have been like this ever since I picked it up.
