    Help me choose a tripod

To answer the main question, have you looked at Gitzo? They're expensive, but the GT2541 legs would probably fall into your price bracket. Buying used would be cheaper. For the price tag, Gitzo is the epitome of 'good quality'.

I need new Acoustic Guitar strings

Thirded, got these on my BH-42. Really nice sound.

    Could you keep your cool?

Lighten up bud, I was joking. ;) I too support the protection of our environment, particularly our natural waterways as I go fly fishing during the warmer months for wild trout. There's a difference between an environmentalist who gets fundamental issues across by reasonable debate and...

    Could you keep your cool?

Well said, sadly some people are very narrow-minded with distorted views of themselves.

    Could you keep your cool?

I would have yelled "Enviro freak!" and got on with my business. Some people simply aren't worth arguing with, so I find. It goes through one ear, and out the other with no processing in-between by both sides of the brain.

    !!!PROBABLE SCAM WARNING!!!

The .com in the URL and cheap-looking site does it for me... Taken from Dintos "Terms & Conditions"... "to enable us and all legitimate crime prevention and prosecution authorities to trace individual users engaging in criminal activities on our website." Oh the irony!

    D3100 v D7000

It's entirely your choice whether to make the investment, I use an EOS 7D but I see the D7000 is a very good piece of equipment at it's price point. I don't know how well it performs in situations such as sports photography. Obviously the D7000 is more ruggedly built than the D3100 which can...

    Telescope advice.

They're on loan at the moment to a local astronomy club (they need gear to show kids the ropes). To be perfectly honest, 25 x 100's aren't exactly that big. They're chunky, but not colossal. I'll try and get a photo of them once I get them back.

    Telescope advice.

I had a Meade LX90 10", which I sold for a pair of 25 x 100 binoculars on a decent tripod and a modified ball mount. The reason, it was simply too heavy to move, and moving it became uncomfortable during the winter. Now I can move in and outside at will within a couple of minutes. You'll get...

    Canon 7D Settings

I'm not aware of you being able to save the custom settings to a PC, there are however three custom modes, C1, C2 and C3 which can be used to set your own parameters for particular circumstances. So long as you know what to set the aperture, shutter speed and ISO to for the correct conditions...

Gift Purchasing advice - Entry DSLR vs Prosumer

I'd certainly recommend a G11, or the G10. The G11 is going on Amazon for about £330, which I know is over your budget but it's worth every penny.

    Entry level Canon/Nikon DSLR?

As above, a new D90 for about £600 would be ideal, or you could always buy one used for about £450-480. I've seen quite a few around since the release of the D7000.

Gift Purchasing advice - Entry DSLR vs Prosumer

It must be a glitch on the dpreview site, as the G10 is a compact bridge, not a DSLR. There are standard compacts, bridge cameras, entry level DSLRs, prosumer DSLRs and then professional DSLRs like the EOS 1D seres or the Nikon D3. If you're after a prosumer DSLR for £300, then a good option...
