A lens test that left me speechless. Testing the sharpest Bigma I've ever seen!

Well, yeah, apparently the new BigmOS is supposed to be sharper. I don't see it being sharper than this tbh. As for the focus gears, I do hope nothing happens to mine since it was bought SH, but I've had great experience with Sigma UK when a TC needed calibrating.

Thanks Andy, I can't wait to get out and about as well, but I'll have to wait a few days for my schedule to clear. Will definitely post as soon as I get some shots with this lens!

A lens test that left me speechless. Testing the sharpest Bigma I've ever seen!

It does look like a great copy indeed. I must say that I am amazed by the quality achieved by some of Sigma's zooms. Until recently I've been using a super copy of the Sigmonster 300-800mm, and in terms of sharpness it was comparable to a friend's Canon 800mm f/5.6 (OK, the Canon was a much...

A lens test that left me speechless. Testing the sharpest Bigma I've ever seen!

I've been extremely lucky to have used (extensively) quite a few of what most of us call 'dream lenses' (especially birders like myself), and I must be honest in saying that I wasn't expecting much from a used Bigma (50-500mm) I bought recently; but after a couple of shots in the garden at...

    Sigma 120-300mm OS testing

Mate, that is a zoom lens with stacked teleconverters, compared at a longer focal length to a lens 5 times its price. That's not bad at all!

Anyone gone from 400D to 550D?

Had the 400D before, now I'm using the 550D. IMO it is really a different camera, it is quite a big step from the 400D, brilliant for low light and the HD video is amazing. To be honest I didn't upgrade for the video but I am finding it brilliant. What I did is I bought a few old manual focus...

Canon 800mm L IS vs. Sigma 300-800mm EX IF

Awesome shot frac!! Good thing to see you are putting your sigmonster to good use!

What's the point of making constant aperture lenses?

My point exactly, if they could they would, but it would be very expensive and unwieldy. But in the case of a 2.8-4, that would overlap with the constant 2.8, that's my case. After R&D reaches to new products and new innovations, then it is up to market forces and strategies to decide what comes...

What's the point of making constant aperture lenses?

Well in this point, even if you avoid product overlap, there's the point of cost and overall weight. If Canon again made a 70-200 f/2.8-4 then to completely avoid product overlap as you suggest they would have to also make a 70-200 f/1.8-2.8. That would be a very difficult lens to produce, it...

What's the point of making constant aperture lenses?

I see RedTele's point but I have to agree with arad's argument on cost and R&D. What's more is that companies in this market, as in all markets, use price discrimination to attract a wider range of customers, maximising their sales, so their net profit. For example, if Canon only produced a...

    Sigma 10-20 sharpness?

This issue with Sigma's QC of this lens has gone too far imho. Sigma announced the affected batch nearly 5 years ago, and it was just a certain batch of bad QC. Not all lenses of that batch were affected, but some where off centred and Sigma recalibrated all affected lenses that were sent back...

28-70mm Sigma F2.8 for Canon 2nd hand pricing??

Hey Janken, whereas at 70mm I would imagine it would be fine for large to very large animals quite close by (i.e elephants :p ) the 28-70 isn't considered a tele lens, I wouldn't even consider it a short tele, it is a mid range lens in a crop camera and a standard lens for full frame. I would...

    Sigma 10-20 sharpness?

Doog, I've had this lens for nearly 4 years now. It is my most used lens, and I went through a few lenses since then. What you have to know about a UWA is that you will very rarely use it wide open. The case with UWA lenses is that you'll need everything in focus because (let me try to explain...
