Hi guys,

I've seen a 28-70mm Sigma F2.8 Lens Canon mount 2nd hand for £150,
is that a steal or not?
I've read to go down at 9am tomorrow to make sure I get it but I'm wondering if it's as cheap as it seems to be considering it retails at about £250 as far as I'm aware.

Is there anything I should look for condition wise?
I've read good things about the lens considering its price point, can anyone else recommend it?

Thank you!!

The 28-70mm is a much older version of the 24-70mm and at £150 it's about par for the course, but certainly no bargain.

The £250 that your talking about would be the more modern version second hand, such as the 24-70mm f/2.8 DG Macro.

Thank you for your reply.

So at £150 you think it might not be such a good deal?

I will be going on Safari in Africa this August and would like a tele lens, do you think it might be suitable or would my money be better spent elsewhere?

It's the 28-70mm Sigma DF btw

Does that mean it's a significantly older model??

I knew it was too good to be true!

Hey Janken, whereas at 70mm I would imagine it would be fine for large to very large animals quite close by (i.e elephants :p ) the 28-70 isn't considered a tele lens, I wouldn't even consider it a short tele, it is a mid range lens in a crop camera and a standard lens for full frame. I would suggest you look into something a lot longer for a safari. An ideal lens imho is something in the range of the Sigma 50-500, where you get the short 50mm for larger animals at close range, but you still have the much needed reach for the more distant animals and birds.
I'm sorry but I am not familiar with the particular lens and I can't advice you on the specific model and price, but I don't think it would be a good choice for a main safari lens.
