A fixed lens prime not only will increase the quality tenfold it also helps you develop a good eye for composition. Having to move your legs to zoom in and out is also great for burning the calories ;-) go for it!
In a member of the SWPP and you get out of them what you put in I guess, there's qualifications to be had but my fave thing is the conference once a year where top speakers come and share their wisdom in about 5 days of seminars you can sign up to at the trade fair.

If the 56mm 1.4 is as good as the 35mm then I'll be a happy man but my 'benchmark' photographer Damien Lovegrove swears by his 60mm macro. It would be handy for the rings at weddings!

Might be worth hanging on a few months as fuji are bringing out a 55-200 this year. If its as good as the 18-55 is supposed to be it'll be about £500 but amazing!
Have you looked at the Olympus OM-D?
A lot of pro togs are switching to this or the fuji x series but the Olympus would handle sports better and has longer lenses! Stunning image quality from these little gems!

Ha, I think you'll find you'll be using the canon gear as a backup to the Fuji. Then sell the canon cos you won't go back. Has happened to many other Canon togs in the last year
