Hello all,

I've been taking photos for around four years now, but I think it's safe to say that I've only really had an idea of what I'm supposed to be doing for the last year or so...

I recently upgraded my 1000D to a 60D and this has helped a lot - I wasn't sure whether the body was holding me up - but the ISO performance and the ergonomics of the 60D have helped a lot.

I love street photography while on holiday, and wildlife stuff too - I find the 55-250 I've got a little limiting for getting nice shots of birds, so eventually I'm hoping to save up enough to get a 100-400mm... but that's a fair few quid!

I'm also quite tempted to get a nifty-fifty but I've heard a lot of horror stories about them breaking and getting stuck... so not sure if it's a false economy or not!

Anyway... that's enough rambling for me.

Cheers,

Ant

Hello Ant and welcome.....................................

Hello Ant and welcome. I have been using and nifty for about 12 months now and haven't had any problems so far. Get some fantastic results and they don't cost the earth mine is the f1.8 which is the cheapest I think £90 ish. Have a look on youtube between f1.8 and f1.4 there's nothing in them apart from around £100 if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks all and thanks Lewis for the info on the nifty-fifty... It's only £80 on Amazon... very tempting!

A fixed lens prime not only will increase the quality tenfold it also helps you develop a good eye for composition. Having to move your legs to zoom in and out is also great for burning the calories ;-) go for it!

I'm also quite tempted by the 40mm STM... I've read a few reviews that say it's sharper than the 50/1.8... Tricky!
