Thanks for the input everyone! I have just double checked my lenses and have 2 canon ef, a 50mm and a 28-135mm which is a good start. I would need to get rid of my 55-250 ef-s and replace it with something suitable. Also have a tamron 19-35mm which I'm not entirely sure what it is, guessing...

Yeah I can say from experience do not get the 75-300mm, mine came as part of a kit with my camera but it was not good! I sold it and changed to a 55-250mm and can't believe the difference for a lens that is so similarly priced!

Dogs every time for sure! I've had both and dogs are so much more friendly and loving, and great for the kids. I remember walking to the dog was the one job I didn't mind doing a kid for pocket money, would always pick it over feeding the cat, couldn't stand the smell of the food!!

Thanks for the input guys. It was taken just with inbuilt flash but I have since for a proper flashgun! So I will try aiming it at the ceiling next time and see what happens, thanks again!
