    Which slr

the 500n is a sort of 80s 90s family holiday slr, with only 3 AF points and limited overrides. Having said that its still quite a capable performer and i've had £900 of L glass on mine before i bought an EOS30, and then a EOS3. Its metering / exposure was always pretty good to my eye. Takes all...

    Light Tripod recommendations

I guess it depends on your definition of light and your budget. For £50 the redsnapper tripod is hard to beat, and can be bought with a variety of heads. You could opt for a Manfrotto 460MG head which might save a few grammes. Redsnapper do a carbon tripod but its around £140 from...

    Auto film winder problem

No custom functions of EOS500(n), its pretty basic AF camera designed more for family holidays than amateur photographer use but its capable all the same if limited in functionality (3 AF points, no CF etc) As you have discovered muliexposures are controlled by the menus on the LCD screen.

Nifty fifty - could I use it for catalogue work?

You might also want to try a reverse macro adaptor ring, and mount the 50mm back to front. No experience of how such adaptors work out in the IQ department though.

Nifty fifty - could I use it for catalogue work?

Your kit lens has a minimum focus distance of 0.26m, which is almost half that of the 50mm (0.45mm). No idea on the sigma sorry. The 50mm will probably be OK especially for its shallow DoF when used wide open, but you'll no doub have to crop down images to make the most of the subject matter...

    EOS Magazine -any good?

Subscribed for a year, and now pondering renewing - it does have some good articles, but a lot of the info is already around onthe net/forums. Also at a quarterly frequency and not that many pages its hardly filling your reading time, i often buy other magazines to fill the gap!

    Nikon FM2 + film newbie = ???

Glad you have it sorted - find yourself a cheap AI/Ai-S lens and go play. I was very impressed with Fuji Neopan CN B&W film (or the Ilford equivalent), as both use C-41 developing chemistry so you can pop the films into the local Tesco/Asda for cheap developing. If anything the Ilford is the...

    Recommended kit for a student

Canon EOS500n is a bit basic as a autofocus camera (only 3 focus points), but you can pick them up for around £20 on ebay, with a basic 35-80mm lens under £40. Lens and camera body have manual override. These are going to be around 10 years old now, but the good news is they were generally...

what have i done! MF: I'm in

Glad to see you got yourself sorted Dave, looking forward to seeing some shots from the new acquisition ;) You have got me thinking about selling my ETR-Si kit though, its not seen a shot for 6 months, and less thana dozen rolls of film since i bought it 10 months ago - always considered it...

    Nikon FM2 + film newbie = ???

FM2n works manually without the battery as you have discovered. Sounds like you may have an issue with the winder rather than anythign else, as its very much a mechanical camera. I seem to remember you had to have the winder lever in the slightly out position to activate the shutter as well...

EOS 1 or 1N? ....or maybe 3 now!

EOS 3 recomendation number 7 God thing with these is they tend to be more keen amateur usage rather than heavy professional and thats reflected in the condition you see them in - mine cost me £110 a few months back from MPB and i'm still to find ANY mark on it.

    Where to start?

Car boot season has or is about to start again - you might be surprised what you can pick up, for the sake of an hour on a Sunday walking round stalls rather than browsing ebay ;)

    Travelling 6x6 roll 2

Nice to see the results, and such a wide variance in results - love the olde worldiness of #9 (1960s ish quality !) and the foreground sharpness in 2 and 4 and the clarity in #11 just goes to show you don't need 20Mp and L glass to get good results Well done to all who succeeded, and Joxby...
