I had both 70-200 4 nonIS and the latest 70-300IS, in picture quality department these were very close, 70-300 was really good indeed, not as good in clolor and contrast but almost there. I sold 70-200 L mainly because I was missing IS.
I know this is going to make some people upset but I am using tamron 18-270 and been quite happy with that as my daily walk around lens. I did have varous primes and L lenses but for convenience I do prefer such a versatile zoom like that.
what I like also about contrast is about old vs new architecture,
there are many examples here in London or anywhere in the world for that matter.
The best I have seen so far, and photographed, are in China atm.
my take is that they are for a publicity stunt with this one, they will do anything just to get into headlines.
Actually it was quite successful attempt I must say.
Now, will I buy a phone like that? Probably no.
well, you probably need both, long(ish) lens for really nice close-ups and 50 or 60 (macro) for the rest. Another idea that comes to mind is to get a fish-eye for some of the odd shots too...
