Hi all

sorry for the utter mundaneness of the question, but could anyone recommend a rucksack type bag that has fittings to carry a 3 section tripod externally, central on the rear? (and camera, waterproofs and other bits inside the bag)
If the waterproof cover (if it has one) still works even with tripod attached even better.

Cheers all.

Thanks chaps!

Evolution 6 looks pretty good too.

Lowepro ProRunner? It's a single compartment backpack, but it does have the external, rear, central tripod carrier.

I use a Lowepro Primus.....Has a compartment that will hold camera and two lenses, an external tripod mount and a compartment to hold enough for a day hike. Good well made rucksack that is fantastic for a day in the hills whilst carrying photographic gear.

There is a used on on fleabay at the moment.

A Kata 3N1 30 does the job for me, although the tripod holder is an extra that costs @ £15.

I've got a Tamrac Expedition 9x, which is very large and can get lots of gear inside and a tripod attached to the outside. It's not the cheapest bag I've ever seen but it is exceptionally well made. This is my second Tamrac bag and I've just ordered my third as they are so good.

Hi
I got a Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 for Christmas and it's got loads of space for camera & bits, waterproofs, lunch, radio fondue set, cuddly toy etc. My tripod either slides into a side loop or ties on underneath. I tend to combine a long walk with a bit of photography so the combination of rucksack/camera bag works well. If you need to you can always shove a spare fleece, hat or gloves in with the camera bits and leave the wet stuff in the top compartment.

Lowepro vertex also does this. Feet go in a detachable pouch and there are two straps (middle and top of the bag) to hold the tripod securely.

Another vote for the pro runner! Has a laptop sleeve also, and you can get loads of stuff in it!

Thankfully not all ProRunners have a laptop sleeve.. it's hard trying to find a large-ish bag (carrying capacity) that doesn't have an unwanted laptop pocket with so much padding that half your budget airline carry-on thickness dimension isn't gone before you've even put anything in the bag..

Kata R-103. Comes with tripod holder and will also accomodate 15.4" laptop as well..

Yes, I dont want a laptop sleeve either. Also dont want one that *only* carries camera gear. To get a .5l flask in there, a fold up foam sitting mat and a few other bits too ideally.

Remember that the Lowepro system backpacks take the SlipLock pouches/cases. I use the ProRunner for camera gear, but I'll be adding accessory pouches for butties'n'bottles when needed.

I've just brought the Think Tank Streetrunner pro, it holds my D40 with a Sigma150-500 attached with room at the bottom and a 70-210 and a standard lens with loads of room! It has a waterproof cover and a foot for a sturdy tripod, you can also buy straps to hook a camera onto the shoulder straps which I thought was a nice touch. It's a really light bag and is taller than some of the more box shaped bags and I paid £129 for it so the price is pretty much what some of the other bags go for. The website has loads of different styles and worth a look.

I have a Lowepro Primus AW with a Sliplock pouch for my 70-200 2.8 on the right hip. It's a great little 'sack and I took mine up Tryfan the day before last. My only criticism is the adjustable upper tripod velcro fastener kept losing it's purchase and gradually slipped down meaning I had to stop occasionally to sort it out. My tripod is a bit of a beast though (details in my profile camera bag) as is the head, it's probably not an issue with smaller/lighter models.

I'd recommend one.

I have used a Lowepro Rover AW for a number of years. The camera gear goes into the bottom half of the bag with a good amount of room in the top half for filters, food, waterproofs and other bits and pieces. There's a waterproof cover as well that is hidden away. External tripod pouch that velcros back when not in use.

For longer treks, it has an external mesh pocket with a drawstring for drinks or anything else. Good thick shoulder / waist straps. As it's a few years old now, it's a pretty cheap bag for what you can carry.

At the risk of repeating myself - FStop Gear have got a range of bags and inner camera bits, so you can decide how much camera/other stuff space you want. There are plenty of tripod/ski/etc carrying options on the outside, including a separate tripod bag that attaches to the main bag.
