So I'm going to apply for a school to study photography over here in Norway.
And there is 1 task of taking four photos as a test for the application.

I already have an idea of three of them. But I really need YOUR ideas here on the fourth! :help:

There is one word "Contrasts". Now, what's a good contrast?
I've got some ideas but not sure how to capture them, seen as most of the subjects i was thinking of isn't available for me.

Share the ideas you have, maybe we can suggest some directions to take them in..

Well, life and death is one. I once took a picture of a cartridge with a plant inside it instead of a bullet.

With black and white I've got a couple of ideas, a black and a white person giving each other a hug? A white woman with a black baby? An imam giving a priest a hug? Something in that direction maybe.

I feel stupid not coming up with anything better. :bang:

I tend to start a project by researching the definition of the word/phrase specified, it's all to easy to think you know the definition and then realise that it wasn't quite what you initially thought and there were several other usages/definitions you hadn't thought of.

Then I'd get down a list of as many possible examples as possible without exploring the creative implmentation.

Lastly I'd work up some ideas from the list. And probably three different ideas for each list item I chose. Include the cliches, but also try and think away from them.

So it might go,

Hot/cold
Black/white
.. .. .. etc

Hot/cold - fire/ice (burning liquid on ice cube? woodburning stove in snowy landscape?), hot/cold (taps in bathroom - bath? shower?), moving from one to the other (sauna and lake? someone jumping from one into the other?), hot/cold tastes (chilli and ice cream? tabasco on ice?)

Black/white - black/white people (friendship? conflict? - hey another contrast add to list), zebra (?), chess (where's the contrast?), "it's all black and white" - is it? (truth/lie - another contrast), coffee - black/white coffee as a metaphor (of what?)
.. .. .. etc

Give it a try.. you should be able to fill a couple of sides of paper without thinking. If not, get out and take a walk. Some fresh air is good, and see what contrasts you find.

Thanks man! I'll defo try out that ice cube thing!
And maybe some of the others as well. :)

They're all terribly cliched.. my intention was to inspire you to expand on your own list and think up some of your own ideas that are new, fresh and innovative instead of copied, cliched and derivative.

This isn't "get your homework done for free" you know.. .. :nono:

If you want to impress the school with your application you'll need to think harder..

what I like also about contrast is about old vs new architecture,
there are many examples here in London or anywhere in the world for that matter.
The best I have seen so far, and photographed, are in China atm.
