    Kayaking at bala

Bridge with give you lots of similar shots, unless you know the paddler they will be a bit of an odd angle and probably wont feature faces! try walking the bank, see where the gates are and look for the turn arounds for good action shots. get low, level with paddlers and shallow DOF to avoid...

    what makes you a photographer

slightly odd question I've been pondering... If I set up a scene, set up the camera and the lights, but someone else pushes the shutter release, can I still claim to be the photographer? Obviously from an art point of view I can claim the picture as my intellectual property even though...

Does anybody ever buy gear that they never end up using?

Most of my kit TBH. Could get rid of all of it and just keep the body, the 50mm and the 18-105 and I'd be fine. I don't even know how my flash unit works!

Now this is a Macro rig

heh I saw this on photo DIY and thought it was a proper beast! Used for taking 3d images of insects in flight I think?

    accessories help (filters mainly)

filters wise I have cheapest UV filters I could find, in all sizes (for each of my lenses). Reason being, I sometimes shoot in VERY dusty/Sandy environments where quality is down anyway (and also seal the body with duct tape and cover the lens barrel with bike innertube!) Other than that, they...

    Projectors?

Our club is in the market for a new projector for competition nights... I'm about to start the arduous task of researching what the internet can offer, but was just wondering what other clubs/individuals recommend/use? Any advice would be much appreciated! I've done a few searches on here and...

    Your saying what?

See, I like mountain biking. Lots of my friends do too, other friends come along, think its amazing after a weekend in Wales and buy a £3k bike on 0% finance. A year later when they've never ridden it, they go away diving and suddenly they must have all the gear for that sport, or kayaking...

    SDHC/ NIkon D90 problem

I've not tried it myself (Mac has built in card reader) But if you plug your D90 into the computer by USB, does the computer not recognise it as an external storage device, negating the need for a card reader at all?

    Underwater photography equipment

I got a fuji waterproof point and shoot jobby for diving in the maldives for about £100. Its only guaranteed to 3m, though given that the most colourful fish are near the surface anyway, this caused no problems. I spent the day's diving properly, and then the evenings snorkelling, chasing fish...

Desaturated Images: An Analysis of Style

mmm lomo! Very popular at the moment with smart phone users, due to "retro camera" apps. Originally based around "toy" cameras, whihc were cheaply made and often with plastic lenses, creating images with low saturation and often a warm temperature, to create a slightly hazy, warm, summery retro...

    Medical photography opportunity

I appreciate it is a fine art and requires (in this case) a degree, but I do wonder who decided that medical photographers and Paramedics should be on the same pay band?

    Feeling uninspired...Help

try taking photos of every room of your house (and outside). Treat it as if you are trying to sell your house, get the best angles, best light, make room look bigger, highlight the areas you think are best, but only one photo per room! If nothing else, in 10yeas time you have a record of what...
