Nearly all lens when stopped down are sharper than being wide open. I would imagine 35 @ f/4 would be much sharper than your kit lens shooting wide open @ f/4.

Get Lightroom, most photographers use it as it is the best way to organise and process large quantity of photos. I dont use the adjustment brush much myself as if I need to do brush adjustment, I ll export it into Photoshop which integrates well with Lightroom

My 2nd hand Sekonic 358 has been very good to me and it only cost a bit over £100, a bargain in my books.

Another thumbs up for Kenko tubes. Has contacts for AF confirmation to pass through, no optics means no loss of image quality either.
