Looks like the D4 and D800 will have price hike in the UK even before they are properly launched. Best get those pre orders in before the prices update tomorrow!
Nearly all lens when stopped down are sharper than being wide open. I would imagine 35 @ f/4 would be much sharper than your kit lens shooting wide open @ f/4.

Get Lightroom, most photographers use it as it is the best way to organise and process large quantity of photos. I dont use the adjustment brush much myself as if I need to do brush adjustment, I ll export it into Photoshop which integrates well with Lightroom
The 866's HSS doesnt work in some modes according to some reviews I found as I was looking for a second flash. Might be worth checking out before buying if HSS is a selling point for you
Focus on composition and location, this comes with experience so just go out there and shoot. You can make nice top of the range cars look plain if you don't have a nice location or composition.
Read books or internet articles on the basics on getting a correct exposure.
