I did tell you Les, and gave you a link to the beta version weeks ago when you said you were buying CS5

Edit not sure but if you upgrade from CS5 youll get a big discount over the full price so youve made a saving there

How long do you think it might take from the beta version to the final retail version?

I was just about to pull the trigger on LR4 and CS5 student editions, however if there is going to be an upgrade to CS5 in the near future I will just get the LR4 for now.

I'm guessing it'll be within the next few weeks.

Why not get LR4 and the CS6 Beta to see you through?

I’ve never used a beta version of any software before. What does it mean exactly? I know is a trial version for testing but if it a time limited trial? If I download it and use it is it going to be a fully functional version until the full release comes out. Will it them be ‘turned off’ by Adobe?

I've installed the Beta for a play. I'm loving the new interface colour, and content aware move is a great idea. Not sure there are enough features to justify the circa £200 upgrade cost though (assuming its the same price as CS5 upgrade) I use LR4 for 95% of my workflow so the changes to Camera Raw etc I don't think are that useful to me.

If it was about £50 then I'd probably do it, but not £200.

It's a time based trial meaning you get to use the full product up to a certain date then it gets de activated by Adobe.

A Beta version isn't the finished product, it's a test version to find bugs/compatibility issues, often features that will appear in the final retail product are missing or deactivated for one reason or another.
I'd expect the final retail version in a few months (subject to what problems they find with the beta).

The Beta I'm using says I have a 60 day trial period, so it'll be at least that long.

I never did get it to open so I deleted the first download and downloaded again but still will not open???????

Any suggestions?

Tried to download it twice, got to the end of the download and stuck......

I guess that's one of the reasons it's a Beta! Report it to Adobe with your system details, presumably it's the sort of information they're looking for.

Does anyone know if it works in tandem with CS5 as I would like to play with it but would not want any issues rolling back at the end of the Beta?

Yes. I've got both happily running on my system. If you've got LR4, when you press CTRL+E (to open the file in PS) it will automatically open in CS6 now.

On another note, I'm not sure installing this Beta was a good idea. I might become too attached to it and be disappointed when the Beta ends and the upgrade price is too expensive!

Here's hoping they make the software more affordable this time round, like they did with LR4...

Hello,

Has anyone installed this on Windows 7 yet?

I download the zip file and extract it but the file has no extension, renaming to the usual .exe and .msi don't work either.

Any assistance much appreciated.

Trevor

Downloaded again and file structure is there.

If you use Lightroom 4 then you will only get full compatibility from its develop module with CS6 as they share the same RAW processing do-hickys.

TheNissanMan: I heard it works fine with CS5.5 and 6 installed, not downloaded the beta myself yet. This was from Gavin Hoey who can be trusted on all things Photoshopy.
