    Canon 17-40 F4lL on canon 50d

Must be a dodgy example as this lens is not soft. I'm not saying it's sharper than the 17-85 (or the 17-55), just that it's definitely not soft. It also has wonderful colour and contrast.

Are All Canons Made Of Lego?

I have a GX20 (which is completely knackered due to its amazing weather seals letting water in) and a 40D. I think they are pretty much comparable in terms of build quality, though and I had two very enjoyable years using the GX20, which is a great camera. The 40D is a smidge superior though in...

Photobucket - uploaded images look flat/desaturated

Ok I've figured it out :) Camera Raw was defaulting to Adobe RGB when opening RAW files, so by clicking on the blue text under the image preview this can be changed to sRGB. Once a RAW file has then been opened into PS, it saves the new default colour space as sRGB. Thanks again for all the...

Photobucket - uploaded images look flat/desaturated

Sorry, I'm still not quite getting this. My workflow would typically be to: > open the RAW in ACR to make edits > open file into PS > make any necessary small tweaks/fix blemishes, etc > save file as PSD > resize image for web (700 pixels high) > save a JPEG copy I just tried un-ticking Adobe...

Photobucket - uploaded images look flat/desaturated

Thank you guys. What would you recommend I set my camera to? Adobe or sRGB?

Photobucket - uploaded images look flat/desaturated

Ok, I've just opened a Flikr account and the images look exactly the same as they do on photobucket! Anyone else have any ideas?

Photobucket - uploaded images look flat/desaturated

Hi, hope someone can help? Embarrassingly, this is something I've only just noticed (after posting my "Brightlingsea" series in the Landscape forum). I have been using Photobucket to host images for uploading to forums such as this one, however PB reduces contrast and desaturates the image. Is...

    Compact Flash for Canon 40D

Thanks Andy. I ordered a 4GB one, but intend to get a second 4GB soon now that funds are permitting. I've always had quick delivery from 7Day, but the time of year and weather have no doubt slowed things right down.

    Compact Flash for Canon 40D

Thank you all. Scandisk 30MB/sec ordered from 7 day Shop. Taking about 7 days to arrive too, so making do with the 256MB card that the seller left in the camera!

Are Nikon and Canon the two main/best brands?

Sony make the 16.2MP sensor that is in the new Nikon D7000 and Pentax K5 and getting the rave reviews. Canon and Nikon make the best DSLRs (cropped and FF) which is why they have the duopoly. Professionals depend on their handling, build quality and reliability and the choice of quality lenses...

    Ideal image resolution for displaying?

I usually resize to 700 pixels high and then apply an appropriate amount of un-sharp mask for viewing on a computer screen.

    Compact Flash for Canon 40D

Thank you Chris :) Can't wait to start using the 40D - seems to be a camera lots of people are extremely fond of even with the 50D/60D successors.

    Compact Flash for Canon 40D

Hi all, I've bought a second hand Canon 40D and want to order a couple of compact flash cards, probably 4 or 8GB, but I am confused by all the speed options available. Obviously I don't want to hamper the camera's potential max burst rate, but I'm pretty I don't need to be buying the fastest...
