Must be a dodgy example as this lens is not soft. I'm not saying it's sharper than the 17-85 (or the 17-55), just that it's definitely not soft. It also has wonderful colour and contrast.

Sony make the 16.2MP sensor that is in the new Nikon D7000 and Pentax K5 and getting the rave reviews. Canon and Nikon make the best DSLRs (cropped and FF) which is why they have the duopoly. Professionals depend on their handling, build quality and reliability and the choice of quality lenses...

I usually resize to 700 pixels high and then apply an appropriate amount of un-sharp mask for viewing on a computer screen.
