Hi all,
I've bought a second hand Canon 40D and want to order a couple of compact flash cards, probably 4 or 8GB, but I am confused by all the speed options available. Obviously I don't want to hamper the camera's potential max burst rate, but I'm pretty I don't need to be buying the fastest card out there!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Matt

Sandisk Extreme III 30mbs will do just fine.

I also have some Dane elec ones from 7dayshop that did fine in my 40D and do fine in my 5d2 at full burst only slowing when I hit them hard.

Just got a replacement for the 40D I sold off one of the lads on TP, it was the one camera I wish I'd never sold, looking forward to having another for my Birdie shots.

Fantastic camera, you'll love it.

Thank you Chris :)
Can't wait to start using the 40D - seems to be a camera lots of people are extremely fond of even with the 50D/60D successors.

The speed of the card will not affect how quickly the camera will fill the buffer (But high speed noise reduction will - turn it off).

Card speed will only become an issue once the buffer is full.

I too have used the 30mb/s Sandisk cards from 7Dayshop:thumbs:

Yup, for the 40D anything faster than 30 MB/s is overkill. I'd be getting one from MPB.

Thank you all. Scandisk 30MB/sec ordered from 7 day Shop. Taking about 7 days to arrive too, so making do with the 256MB card that the seller left in the camera!

It's a cracking camera and these are the cards I'm using and have not had a buffer problem at all.

Hopefully it will arrive fairly soon, although with 7 day (not always the fastest in posting, but good pricing) and the weather at the moment :shake: - what size did you order ??

Enjoy your new camera

Thanks Andy. I ordered a 4GB one, but intend to get a second 4GB soon now that funds are permitting.
I've always had quick delivery from 7Day, but the time of year and weather have no doubt slowed things right down.
