Hi guys!

Another simple question for you, what do you find is a good resolution to display images at? I always take in RAW, once all PP is done, do you save and display image as is, or crop/resize to a certain size?

I usually resize to 700 pixels high and then apply an appropriate amount of un-sharp mask for viewing on a computer screen.

It all depends on what you're going to be viewing the image on. For my iPad I resize to 2048 pixels wide - so I can zoom in 2x if I want to. For my web gallery I resize to roughly 600x400. For forum display I resize to 800 or 1024 pixels for the longest edge, depending on the forum rules.

Good thing about raw is that you can generate all the different sizes from the one raw file, stick the jpegs where they're needed then delete them from the PC.

I always crop and resize in Lightroom with Mogrify.

Export to jpg at 600, 800 or 1024 pixels longest edge depending on where I'm uploading it to and why. Custom exports to adjust for the aspect ratio if I'm going to use it as my desktop. Exports to the exact pixel dimensions I need for printing as and when required (why spend time waiting for an oversize file to upload to DSCL).

I wouldn't ever export without changing the size unless I was exporting for further processing with different software. Hard disk space might be cheap.. but no need to waste it.

I would say 1280 on longest edge for forum posting, unless it's a portrait orientation (1024 on longest edge) as most new monitors these days seem to be 1080 or 1200 pixels high apart from mega expensive high end screens, (typically 2560x1600 or 2560x1440)
