Winter Tyres - Opinions from folk who have used them...

Here's a few links with information: - Winter tyre buying guide - Reasons to consider winter tyres To summarise, if you do a lot of miles in freezing conditions, or will have to use your car in the snow then a winter tyre is a good idea. If you can work from home in the snow a winter tyre...

100mm F2.8 L IS - should it rattle (is it an is feature)

if you shake it with the back cap off you can actually see the bottom element moving about and banging against the sides... well you can on mine at least :'(

100mm F2.8 L IS - should it rattle (is it an is feature)

wontolla, the sound isn't when in use, it's when it's off the body. If you shake it side to side you can hear it clunking. Bob, thank you for the reassurance :) Can you see your bottom element wobbling around too? PS Merry Christmas all :)

100mm F2.8 L IS - should it rattle (is it an is feature)

I've just picked up the 100mm f2.8L IS lens - what a lovely bit of kit. One thing I've noticed is it rattles when not in use. It looks like the bottom set of optics moving about if i move it around when not on a body. Is this normal of IS? I figured they'd "park" when not in use...

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

Diego, interesting comments. I mostly shoot for screen (again 72dpi) but the odd print will happen :) Malla, thanks for the link, really interesting someone coming from a D3 and actually being impressed with the Canon AF. The 1d MK4 should had AF sorted if it's the pro version of the 7d af.

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

Technically the flagship would be the d3x ;) I'll answer your question with a question. Why make do with one camera when you can have 2, more specialised ones? You wouldn't expect the same car to take you competitive track racing AND to be comfortable for miles of offroading, you'd buy a race...

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

Interesting. Been tempted by the 1Ds MKII a few times but I'm not sure I'd get on with the screen. What I really need is for a cheap used 1ds MKIII to appear ;)

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

I was under the impression the 7d can track as well, if not better than the 1d MKIII (not that the 1d MKIII is known for it's stellar AF ;))

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

You've pretty summed up my thinking. I've 2 camera bags so I wouldn't have any issues taking 2 bodies on the very rare occasions the need arises. I've decided to get a 5d MKII, battery grip and the 100mm f2.8 IS L and already emailed Stuart at Digital Depot :D hehe there's always one...

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

Look forward to seeing some decent 5d mkII vs 7d real world tests. I've a funny feeling i'll still be happier with the 5d MKII for portrait work.

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

My current kit is limited by the old body as I've been putting all my money into lighting / glass, so it's time for a body upgrade. I WANT to switch, but I don't think I need to which is why I posted this just to make sure I wasn't missing anything. As someone said on another thread, if you...

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

I think I got my wording wrong. I know good Nikkor glass is pin sharp, and dream about shooting with the 70-200 vrII, 200-400, or 400mm f/2.8G but given the prices of these lenses, it ain't gonna be any time soon! Canon seem to have the edge in primes and mid range glass (there's quite a lot of...

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

I've enough Canon bits (not just glass) to make the switch expensive. Glass won't have lost much value, my sigma 10-20 will have as will my Canon speedlites. The alternative nikkor lenses aren't "bad" at all, just more expensive, plus it's a little of the unknown (eg, i don't know if the...

    D3 vs (5d MKII & 7d)

Sorry if I waffle a bit, or if it's been covered before (I searched) but there is a point to all this :) Like a lot of you I'm a Canon shooter, and have been wrestling with the need to move to Nikon for many months. The obvious draw back with the move is glass, both existing and new. I like...

Who has done the Canon to Nikon change

Finally a review that might stop people switching in droves. The first positive I've read about the 1d MK4. http://jeffascough.typepad.com/jeff_ascough_blog/2009/11/canon-1dmkiv-at-a-wedding.html FWIW, I keep switching between the relatively cheap upgrade to a 5dmkII or the expensive upgrade...
