    Complete photography virgin seeks advice..

Canon 18-55mm is isnt so bad, i think for a beginner who's going to take photos of quite a variety, cities, landscapes, objects, people etc it will be fine and you will get some very decent photos with it, build quality isnt great but it's very light for travelling and as long as your careful...

    Settings

To show movement in water you would need a slow shutter speed so there's time for water to move, but you'll also need low light so the slow shutter doesnt let too much light it and make the image too bright, so perhaps just after sunset or use a nd filter, you would need a tripod or a sturdy...

    Settings

i'm sure the conditions arn't going to destroy her camera during a two week holiday. all you can do is have a play with it, you got a long journey to read the manual, books etc lol, and when you get there just enjoy the camera and fall back to auto if you need to, can't learn unless you try.

    Focus / speed issues

The shutter speed you need depends on what your doing and shooting, if you shooting a still object on a tripod for example then u can have a slow shutter speed, if it's not too bright of course but if your taken moving shots, i.e your son on a bike, a dog, a plane etc you want a faster shutter...

    Need some advice

get outside with these dogs, get some more natural background for the photos, and maybe the dogs running around etc etc, i think it would make the photos much more interesting and will give you some nice experience with moving subjects etc.

well i have actually been using some ex150's today that my company has and i have been tasked with getting the inhouse photography back up for product shots etc. So with a days testing and playing about i found that 1 head flash is full time slave unless its connected directly to camera where...

I'm thinking about selling my 18-55 IS kit lens

the kit lens is pretty good really, made a little cheaply perhaps but it takes nice pictures. you would have to get an 18mm-200mm super telephoto really to keep the range. or get a telephoto 70-200 75-300 and a replacement for you 18-55. all depends what money you have to spend.

Works D40 + Kit lens won't auto focus

yer i think so. Auto focus finally clicked in (a big click) it does auto focus now but very clicky, then if i go manual you cant then twist to focus and then back in auto focus it wont focus. Lens is duff i think, repair company anyone? or just replace? have to see what my company wanna do.

Works D40 + Kit lens won't auto focus

Hi, I was given my works d40 to fix today as they said it wouldn't take pictures. In autofocus it wouldn't take photo's but in manual it would, in autofocus it wouldn't focus so there's the reason it won't take a photo right? When you have press the shutter in autofocus you hear a...
