Right guys,

I have a pair of interfit ex150's that I have borrowed from the photosoc and goddam are they a pain in the ass. The special interfit trigger occasionally will fire the lights on test but never from the shoe(with fresh batts). 1 of the two works reliably with a cable the other is only good for a slave. wtf I thought studio lights were meant to be better than shoe flashes :D

Anyone got any thoughts on why its messing around?

I got a pair of heads and stands two cheap and nasty shoot through brollies a softbox two parabolic reflectors and sync cables. I'd like a honeycomb or snoot (or both) any nice ways to do this, either without paying or should I liase with matt and get em ordered.

..... the other ancient lights we have just work and have nicer mods parabolic reflectors, snoots, grids and similar cheapy brollies :D

(right now I have a work around that is using PT-04's to fire the good light and slaving the other)

well i have actually been using some ex150's today that my company has and i have been tasked with getting the inhouse photography back up for product shots etc.

So with a days testing and playing about i found that 1 head flash is full time slave unless its connected directly to camera where it works as master.

so basically both worked with sync cable and only one could be master over the slave, but i could be wrong but i tested some setups and couldn't get anything else.

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-kaiser-hot-shoe-adaptor-1300/p1006113 this is what i used to connect flash and camera (works d40)

Why your slave wont work on its own with cable directly to camera i dont know.

I have a pc port and that works fine but only for the one head - so one is a master and one is a slave that makes sense though they aren't labelled as such grrr

the IR trigger doesn't work is that cos the triggers dead or because IR is useless or other reason ?

IR triggers are old technology and have been largely replaced by radio triggers. Even the good quality IR triggers rely on having (more or less) line of sight, although to some extent the signal can bounce off of reflective surfaces, and will only work in fairly dim conditions, so a waste of time if bright modelling lamps are switch on (not likely to be a problem with Interfit modelling lamps but a real problem with more powerful ones) or if there is powerful room lighting, or sunlight.

was quite dark and dammed close tbh I am using ebay triggers or cables just seems a bit pants to me that they bother designing such a useless system when there are far better options out there

what do you know about modifiers gary I'd like some hard light espesh a gridspot are they standard circles that go over the parabolic reflector or do I need to find an interfit one ?
A homebrew option would be great as this is temporary and I don't know what head I will buy when i come to get one properly

i've had problems with ex 150,s when the power has been quite low but above half way & they have been fine other than the usual problems with cheap ebay triggers.

Honeycombs vary but are generally fitted to a standard reflector that has a recessed lip for the purpose. I believe that the Interfit lights you have are a non standard fitting, so I doubt whether you could find anything to fit it (although I could be wrong about that).
People do make up honeycombs by cutting up black straws and glueing them together, that should work well enough if you have a patient nature;)

dam there's a lip on the outside but I reckon a bit of card and straws will make a good enough one for experiments

triggering issues? I think mine were low power too might explain it, my current long term plan involves buying a single head so I can splash more cash on that than I could on a set
