Depending on which BIOS you have the beep codes will vary a bit - here's a good start http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/Motherboard/BIOSbeep.shtml Count the number of beeps on power up and the list should tell you what is wrong.

I shoot both, mainly because I'm still not that good at processing my RAW shots and I tend to use the jpegs as a minimum quality reference.
