    Spring trip to Japan

Honestly I was as surprised as you are. I'd probably use the UWA more if I was focusing more on architecture but for general street/travel stuff I find that 24mm is the widest I like to go. The only time I recall actually switching to the UWA on my iPhone was to film how hilariously small my...

    Spring trip to Japan

I just got back from Japan and I brought the following (broad sketches since actual bodies don’t matter): 2x Bodies, a 28mm and a 50mm on each 1x Medium Format TLR (6x6), 75mm lens which works out as about 40mm ~50 rolls of film for the above An iPhone 17 Pro for video and for tele work. I...

    Ricoh GR III Owners Thread

I'll be in Japan at the end of next month/early Oct so hopefully I can find a IV there. Would be a great upgrade from my original GR (still going strong btw), and I'd finally be able to use the cases I have for my GRD3 (also still going strong) which I bought on the classifieds here about 13...

    Dodging and Burning?

I do lots of darkroom printing these days (colour and b/w) sometimes it takes the best part of a day to get a print just right. It’s quite quick/easy to get most of the way there but it’s the finer adjustments that take ages.

    What Camera?

I could but I’d rather go through the stuff I have stockpiled especially since it’s easy to get a handcheck flying out of Heathrow these days. The weight isn’t a big concern for me anyway, just a minor annoyance.

    What Camera?

They'll have different sensor corrosion patterns since they're M9s ;) Makes sense, your wide + tele choices are just out of the ranges that the Tri-Elmars give you. I'm currently on a two week trip in the US, my setup is 2x Film M bodies (one for b/w, one for colour), 28/50mm lenses, and a...

    Stupid Question

If you're happy with the scans then don't worry. I just don't consider Noritsu scans in general to be a substitute for not getting the negs back. You're just too locked in and reliant on whoever is operating the scanner that day. The scanners I mentioned above are really good quality, but...

OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

I had a black Tachihara a few years ago and to be honest I didn't really like using larger shuttered lenses on it. Wasn't stable enough since the bellows and focusing rack were pretty much at their limits with the lenses I had (a 300mm and a 240mm). Its happy spot was with Copal 0/1 shutters.

    Stupid Question

Personally I wouldn't consider standard lab scans to be a proper backup of a negative. It'd have to be a decent camera scan or something out of a Coolscan/Flextight/Heidelberg for me to consider it a file with the requisite flexibility and tonality you get with a negative.

    Stupid Question

For times when I'm shooting a lot of film I ask my lab to make stickers (Date/My Name/Project Name) for each roll so I can pair them with contact sheets. As for knowing exactly which camera took what picture, I just remember really -- some of my cameras have unique film gates (for example my...

What is your biggest missed opportunity or sold gear?

Passing on various XPans/Leica M6s (and Leica lenses)/premium 35mm point and shoots. Shouldn't have let go of my Epson RD1 as well but 6mp was never going to be enough for my main digi if I wanted to shoot professionally. I could argue I never needed a higher MP digi in the first place as I'm...
