Guys, thanks for the help. Think I've sort of solved the problem.
As per Specialman's comments - it does seem to be the on-board that is pre-flashing. I put one of the flashes on the camera and the other on the slave. Both fired correctly.
By covering the flash on the hotshoe with card it...
Thanks, Chris, but I think I've already covered that possibility.
I pressed the shutter-release halfway and the on-board and slave fired. I then waited for the slave flash to recharge before pressing the shutter-release fully. Again, no effective light caught from the slave flash...
Thanks again
I'm fairly new to photography so don't want to throw too much cash at it too soon...
I have a Canon 1000D and a couple of cheap SLR flashes. Both work on the camera hotshoe although I understand this could cause me problems
I bought a slave cell which is activated by the on-board flash so...
Like the shot, Dawn. Maybe a slightly less sharp angle on the page would give more impact to the word "accomodation" but I definitely like your latteral thinking on the theme :)
Whiteflyer,
I was merely trying to make the point that very few people can claim to know every detail about every aspect of their job.
If we want to get into the nitty gritty of these circumstances then the cop MIGHT have been a Traffic Cop who knows road policing law inside out but as he only...
"...With all the publicity about Section 44 even the densest plod must know the law by now but still events like the following happen,it makes you wonder if they are corrupt and blatantly ignoring the law..."
Would everyone who find the officer's actions 'stupid' or 'corrupt' be able to...
I had a go last night - EOS 1000D on a 30" exposure using 2" self-timer - didn't get any meteors but I got a nice bit of morse-code
It was the flashing lights of an aircraft that had popped out between clouds whilst I wasn't looking.
Briony,
Fantastic set and really great to see the progression through use of light, ideas and photoshopping
I'm pretty new to all this but it's given me some fantastic ideas for my own shots
Thanks
Graham
Well, based on the advice here I've just taken 3 shots that all fired.
I'll post the best in my gallery when I put them on the computer tomorrow. When I say 'best' I mean the one that is closest to what I wanted to achieve as a 'shot'.
Next I'll use the technique on a proper shot
thanks people...
I'm guessing it will be the manual focus that's the issue. It just didn't fire at all. I tried it on a timed shot as well but absolutely nothing.
I'll try again on manual focus and see how that goes
Thanks again :notworthy:
There's probably a very simple answer but the problem is this.
I've tried taking a night photo of the moors and lights of the town that my house overlooks. At first, with settings of f/11 on Av and an ISO of 200, the exposure read -2 and was flashing. I cranked up the ISO to 800 and got...
Thanks Geoffrey...
The last one was a 35mm film camera Zenit 11 I bought for the wife and she never used. I tinkered with it a bit and got the hang of lighting and depth of field but didn't use it too much because of the cost of film and processing... etc... plus having young children.
