Are The Police Stupid Or Corrupt

"...With all the publicity about Section 44 even the densest plod must know the law by now but still events like the following happen,it makes you wonder if they are corrupt and blatantly ignoring the law..."

Would everyone who find the officer's actions 'stupid' or 'corrupt' be able to remember EVERY aspect of their own occupation's rules and regulations?

Just a thought...

I don't know EVERY tiny rules at my place of work, but I do know that ones that are constantly talked about.

I would expect a police officer to know about the one that has been reported in nearly every media outlet be that Newspaper, Radio or TV over resent months.

As for the officer deleting photos, that would IMHO be a criminal offence in itself, if the offence is taking photo, then deleting them is the unauthorized disposal of evidence.

In a court case the CPS would have no evidence to submit to the court to show that the offence had taken place.

The police generally do a good job, but there are some right dummy's in there, for example the son of a work college got arrested on suspicion of a driving the get away car from a robbery, the police were looking for a BLACK Golf, he was stopped in his bright RED golf. The solicitor pointed this out in the station, and he was let go and all charges dropped.

Whiteflyer,
I was merely trying to make the point that very few people can claim to know every detail about every aspect of their job.
If we want to get into the nitty gritty of these circumstances then the cop MIGHT have been a Traffic Cop who knows road policing law inside out but as he only gets drawn into public order situations rarely he may not have been FULLY aware of his powers re the camera.
Also, there is so much scrutiny of the police that if you base your argument on topics in the media then I think we could all think of a whole list of incidents that get highlighted in the press or on TV (pursuits/actions on speaking to or dealing with people/arrests/evidence gathering/community engagement/Human Rights... etc...). It's a lot to be an EXPERT at...
I would guess a cop needs to be a 'Jack of All Trades' and 'Master of None' but try to do the job honestly and to the best of their ability
With that I don't think I'll bother revisiting this thread again as I just think it's become an opportunity for people to have a good old winge...

"stupid" and "corrupt" arent wild accusations?

I was refering to the content of the article which seems to lay out the sequence of events clear enough - nothing in that was a wild accusation.

The title of the thread does seem a little to the right I would agree.

out of interest, how many people in this thread have actually had reasonable issues with the police?

I've had an issue with two officers (non photographic related) who clearly had no knowledge of the law in the particular area being discussed. In fact what they told me couldn't have been further from the truth.

Does that makes all officers the same, no not at all. But when these cases do happen it's right that they should be flagged and dealt with.
