    A lens mug.

but then if you left it for a while, zoom creep would probably mean you found half your cuppa now over your desk...

    Old photographs and copyright

I'm not 100% sure on this but I didnt think it was possible to extend the length of time a work is copyrighted for, even if you pass the rights on to someone else.

    Old photographs and copyright

Its not, hence why there have been prints and/or ba$tardizations of it. (eg the spliff smoking lisa). after copyright is up, nothing happens to the copyrights, anyone is free to reproduce and/or copy the work.

Live view now available on every dSLR

split prisms on the focusing screen. stronger matte affect (darker image but easier to see the focus) pentaprism rather than pentamirror to get a brighter image (although only relevent to entry level DSLRs) and of course the larger size of a full frame also makes it easier to see...

    NO TRIPODS - LONDON

Yay better wording! ;) I would hazard a guess to say "because they need to be seen to do something and there would be too much of a public outcry if they stopped average joe taking a picture with his camera phone"

    NO TRIPODS - LONDON

Well you claimed a proven fact, which is indisputable. Not a "that we know of".

    NO TRIPODS - LONDON

You cant claim the negative only the positive. Only if you went and personally asked every terrorist if they had ever used an SLR and knew they werent lying could you possibly make such a claim. No member of the IRA, ETA, or any others? Its not just Al Qaeda.

    NO TRIPODS - LONDON

I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe parts of london are illegal to photograph for any purposes other than tourist shots without prior written permission. That certainly covers trafalgar square although i'm not sure where else. (That prior written permission comes at a cost of £500 per hour...

    crt monitor?

I have never seen a TFT represent colours as well as a good quality CRT and that includes my calibrated work monitors (Dell 21" + Dell 24" widescreen). If you dont mind the desk space and want image quality above anything I'd reccomend getting another CRT even if they are getting rarer to find.

    Stupid shutter question

I seem to remember the 40D has a partly electronic shutter? As in the physical bit doesnt close but some clever electricery replaces it (eg the sensor stops collecting photons, or those photons no longer matter or something (I think its the "quiet mode" where the shutter doesnt reset until you...

    That was annoying....

and maybe the OP could have been a little more polite and respectful to the farmer! Very few people seem to have given him the benefit of the doubt...

    That was annoying....

oh come on, you dont say "behind the gate" when your nowhere near it. Of course we werent there so only have the account to go on, the google maps shot a typical rural scenario. No pavement so no public footpath just grass verge and hedgerows. It sounds like the OP was setup between the gate...

    That was annoying....

where is the statement he was not on the farmers land?
  14. Finn

    That was annoying....

Seemed unclear as to whether he was on the farmers land or not, his response to the farmer didn't state he was on public land so therefore was right but was more a "you cant prove i'm in the wrong so shove off or call the police" Slander, libel and even breach of copyright are all civil...

    That was annoying....

Didn't he say exactly that? And why does the police have to be involved before someone will accept they are in the wrong (although by the tone of the OP he would have taken the pic anyway and then left before they could arrive) Common decency says respect the land-owners wishes. Perhaps...
