Many liberties were taken getting this shot :)
Forest hut in the wilds of Finland last week.
Hand held for 1s with the aperture wide open - the 16-35 f4 is an amazing lens!
ISO 6400 and pushed by 1.2 stops in Lightroom - there is no way the 5D3 image could have been pushed like this.
In short...
Been watching for a 5D4 owners thread too :naughty:
I use my camera a lot in low light, and so far the 5D4 is proving WAY better than the 5D3.
Not the subtle increment I was lead to expect, but a quantum leap.
I've had my first 5D4 photo published
December issue of Saga magazine -...
Don't worry - it's a wonderful camera :)
Seriously I don't know what can follow the X30 - plenty good enough image quality and the EVF changed the way I use these little cameras.
Noooooooo!

If my X30 dies I have absolutely no idea what I'd replace it with - apart from another X30....
Simple trick...
Use AF on something about the right distance, then flick the switch into manual focus.
This works fine until you change the zoom, after which you will need to re-focus.
Oh... And MF on the X30 is significantly improved.
The twist dial on the lens changes focus, and peak...
That second blackout period is also present on DSLRs.
They take a second shot with the shutter closed of the same duration, then subtracts the two shots; it removes any persistent noise present in the sensor.
Most DSLRs allow it to be turned off, but I don't think I've seen that option on the...
I think you mean Olympus - it has a Live Composite scene mode.
I've been playing with it to see if it is of any use, or whether it is just a sales gimmick like in-camera HDR (horrible artefacts).
The short answer is that it is superb!
I hadn't posted anything here on TP about my testing because...
The Olympus does RAW, nice bright f2.0 lens, and although the high ISO is rubbish compared to the X30 it's still pretty good compared to its direct competitors - it's worth the money.
Regards internal moisture - they all do it - it's a problem even with GoPro's.
The seals not only have to be...
It not as bad as that!!!
The TG-4 can be carried in my over suit pocket and can grab shots using light from my helmet without having to unpack the barrel. Means I can get fairly candid shots in the more gnarly parts of cave trips. I'm calling this my ultra-light caving camera gear.
The X30 is a...
I've just bought an Olympus Tough TG-4.
But it's not a replacement for the X30, but should mean my X30 no longer needs to be dropped down mineshafts or bounced down stream beds in a padded barrel.
First trip is now complete and the sensor is decidedly last years model compared to the X30 (or...
The X30 did very well with this shot!
Hand-held at 1/2s, ISO 1600, f2
Gaping Gill, Yorkshire - Largest underground chamber in the UK (by volume).
Lighting is a pair of LED video lights either side of me plus the cavers head torches.
LOL - I don't know about that :)
It was an awkward location to shoot - certainly don't want to drop anything!
Although at first glance it looks spacious, but you can see the 'roof' is only about the same height as the Dad's shoulders. There are other parts of this trip where it was not possible...
