The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

I bought a cheap case on Amazon recently. I could only use the bottom part as I keep a lens hood on at all times and the top section of the case wouldn't fit. I decided to butcher it! The result is that I have protection for the rear of the camera when it's bouncing against my chest and it's dead easy to move to use either the EVF or rear screen. I'm afraid it looks a bit of a hatchet job but it works well ;) If I did it again I would make a much better job of it and get a shoe repairer to stitch it.

EDIT: Since found that I can't move the tilting screen with this case fitted so it's been relegated to the bin!!!

Black and white version. Perfect Effects 9 (Fuji Neopan 100). When I was a kid everyone wanted to be able to take colour photos. Now I find myself preferring black and white.

I saw that, my Dad bought one at 249 last week, looks like they are all out of stock at that price and new stock appears to have increased by £40 or so.
I did a search about screen protectors for the X30 but could find what I wanted, does anyone have any recommendations for a glass ( GGS or preferable Larmor) protector that fits properly?

Feeling kind of smug at buying mine. Normally the price plummets immediately I've bought any thing!

Case turned up. It seems ok. It's reasonable leather but slightly awkward. It will fit on over the lens cap though.

Yes. The two you quoted don't seem to have produced one that's an exact fit. I wanted one that's made from optical glass and made exactly for the X30. After a lot of research, the only one that made the grade was the Professional 6. I bought it and it's absolutely spot on! Top quality and looks stock and very easy to fit. It's also no-where near as expensive as I expected. There is a UK seller on Amazon who charges 2-3 times more. Get it from this eBay seller in Germany, instead. He's quick and efficient and you'll wait 3-4 days to receive it.

I bought the JJC glass protector from Amazon for £6.99 and it is an exact fit on the screen, is very easy to apply and, as it has no silver border or any logo's, looks just like the original LCD. It has been on for about 3 months, not a mark.

Just about to order one for my X-T1 as the Accmax plastic screen is really showing the scratches.

I wonder if someone can give me a few tips; is there a particular 'sweet spot' on the x30 in respect to depth of field/diffraction for landscapes. On my fz200 it was about f4 (small sensor), but I believe the sensor is bigger on the x30.

Somebody wrote something about this in the thread waaay back. It was probably about the X10/X20 but since it's essentially the same sensor/lens setup in the X30 I would imagine nothing has changed.

Sorry can't be more specific but you might like to hunt through the posts on here.

Thanks, I'll do a search on the thread when I get on a proper computer and off my phone:)

Yep, after a quick test I'd second that. F8 definitely seems usable though.

The jpegs from the x30 really are nice (with the sharpness notched back). There seems to be a lot of data retained in them as well.

I can't find it now in this monster thread, but did someone say they'd got a Lowepro Apex AW 60 case for their x30? I'm looking for a case and they all look either too big or too small...

At the moment I'm using a Tamrac Digital 5696 left over from a few years ago. It takes the X30 with lens hood fitted with room for specs case, wallet, etc. The front pouch holds spare battery, SD cards etc. Also a handy small storage area in the lid. Would prefer something smaller but I need somewhere to put my specs at least!

I bought a Billingham Hadley Digital here some time ago but rather hastily sold it on again. I sometimes wished I hadn't and might go down that route again.

The ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover 5 takes the camera with a hood on plus a battery & extra SD card and that's it.

Will be going to Wedding do, or rather the evening bit tomorrow night. Will be taking the X10 with me, and two fully charged batteries and see what I can capture. Wondering if I should use the Adv Pro Low Light mode, or go RAW to have a better chance of tweaking things later?

Tbh I had more luck in pro low light. Just too much noise on these smaller sensors...
Or, do the astrphotography trick of taking dark frames and subtracting them from the raws.

I think I will start off in Pro Low Light mode, and maybe finish off with a few in RAW. Only thing with Pro Low Light mode, is the focus point..

I used my X10 at my son's wedding, just took JPEGd and it performed pretty well. White balance was an issue, so in retrospect I should have shot raw!

Women!

My wife decided to "tidy up" my office/study when I was working away during the week. So now I've lost the charger and spare battery for my X10. Searched high and low but no sign of it or the little portable hard drive that was sitting beside it on the bookcase shelf.

Grrrrrrrrr!

I probably should shoot RAW, seeing though they are never to be repeated photos.

My camera bits and bobs live on my computer table, my missus would never dare touch my stuff. She knows I would huff and puff and say nowt ;)

We have a "dining" table which gets covered in my crap stuff from time to time. Mrs Nod occasionally asks me to tidy it up, followed a couple of days later by a threat to do the tidying herself. Oddly, I do it within minutes of that threat kind offer!

Mrs A likes to tidy up and "put things away" Trouble is, when she puts things away that are never in a logical place. At the moment I am missing the two spare batteries I bought for my X30.
On a good note, I found a couple of other things that had been "put away" while I was looking for the batteries.

Hi guys, I sold my XF1 ages ago but have just found a replacement charger Fuji sent to me after I was having problems with the original.

Its this one with UK plug, no box or anything but if someone wants to pass me £5 to cover postage I'll stick it in the post.

I'll stick it in a sale thread an do it all above board if so, cheers.

Got a feeling there may be loads of XF1 chargers lying about doing nothing :)

'cos they have a life expectancy shorter than the manager of a premiership team on a losing streak.

The cameras? I didn't have mine very long but it was replaced twice in the first 2 months for lcd light bleeds

Mine is still going. Well, after it's repair.
It's the backup to my LX100 though, so doesn't get much use these days.

Are all the fujis a bit iffy quality wise or are there just odd ones?
My first experience of Fuji was the XF1, it failed in the first year and no longer works. NO help from fuji whatsoever, they just did not want to know. Shame really, as I love the looks and images from fuji, I still have the X10, but that will be the last fuji I will ever buy..

I think the main one to fail is the XF1 with it's 'lens control' error! Mine failed within a year and was fixed by Fuji at no cost luckily.
Not used it for a while as I tend to use the D7100 but it's very handy to stick in a pocket when going out.

Hopefully whatever schoolboy error they made in the XF1 manufacture wasn't repeated in the X30!
