    Rig Photography on the Cheap

I saw this video yesterday too, no way I'd be using cable ties to secure my kit to any car. I'm pricing up a DIY rig at the moment and the only part I'm stuggling with is the boom/pole itself. I'm going to go for the Manfrotto F1000/Avenger Pump suction mounts, Manfrotto super clamps and I'll...

    Cannon 400mm 5.6L lens

I bought a used one earlier this year. The hood is the bit to check. It's integrated with the body and there's a rubber seal which can get pinched and pulled out of it's groove if the hood is over tightened. That can then jam and as you try to loosen it other damage can follow. Check that the...

Best spots for BSB Silverstone with 70/300

    1) Inside of Copse corner, assuming the Copse tunnel is open. Pan and focus through the fence. Marc Marquez @ Copse by David Cane, on Flickr 2) The exit of Luffield should be good if you can eliminate the fence effect. Morning session at this spot could give you the best lighting & shadows...

Gear Insurance, The Do's The Dont's and The Who To Use...

I can recommend Aaduki. I had to claim this year when I was burgled. They were quick, efficient and I had new gear within 2 weeks.

    LP-E6 Batteries for Canon 5D MK3

I use a couple of Dot.Foto batteries and they're beter than the Canon OEMs. They hold charge for ages when not in the camera whereas my Canon batteries (all new) almost always need a top up before use.

    New Lens Combo advice

First test with the repaired lens somewhat more successful than the F1 weekend. My first attempt at an airshow too (Bournemouth).

    New Lens Combo advice

Update: I picked up the 400mm from Canon this morning fresh from a repair. Hoping to have a better time with it at Silverstone next weekend.

    New Lens Combo advice

That sounds like a good combo, plus the 300 has IS. My 400mm is going back into Canon Esltree where it will hopefully get fixed. I just need to find a day to drive there and drop it off.

    New Lens Combo advice

Unfortunately that lens had an issue from the first time I used it. The previous owner is attempting to arrange for Canon Elstree to repair it under the warranty on the service that they did in June, but so far I haven't really been able to use it.

    Holiday Insurance Secondhand Equipment

I took my insurance for camera gear out with Aaduki. They accepted eBay emails and TP forums/PMs as proof of purchase for my 2nd hand stuff. I had to provide them with serials when I took out the policy and also had photos of all my gear. They covered it all under a new-for-old policy so when I...

    F1 Silverstone

and your shots have pretty much convinced me to use my 400mm 5.6, 1.4x extender and 5D3 together and have the 70-200 on the 7Dii They're sooooo sharp.

    F1 Silverstone

There may well be less access at the F1 event than at WEC. So whereas at WEC I was able to walk to the outside of the new loop where there are a couple of photograper cutouts in the fence, I suspect those areas are off limits to the general public for F1. I'll test the water 1st thing on Friday...

    New Lens Combo advice

I've ended up with the 400mm f5.6 prime, a 1.4x Mk3 Extender and the 70-200 f2.8 IS II. Between those and the 7D & 5D combo, I should have a fair old focal range covered. The acid test comes on Friday @ Silverstone. Az, I look forward to seeing your results if you get the Sigma.

    New Lens Combo advice

I did consider that a couple of years ago, but the recent models are out of my price range. As it turns out, I've now bought my non-telephoto setup which leave just the right budget for a 400mm 5.6 prime so I'm 99% sure that's what I'll be going for. My 70-200 2.8 with a 1.4x iii extender can...
