Any recommendations of insurers who'll insure secondhand equipment? I'm insured in this country through my house insurance but I'm going on holiday to Spain and everyone seems to want proof of purchase etc which I haven't really got due to most stuff being bought privately on here/ebay etc. Will be taking around £1200 worth I guess.

Cheers

I would have thought that whoever insured you would want some evidence of what you had and were claiming for ... don't you have emails etc that could support a claim?

Or you could take photos of your gear ... ?

Exif info in your photos would show the Camera model and Lenses. That coupled with a photographic inventory should be sufficient proof of ownership. If in doubt, try to get in writing what you are covered for. No matter what though, use a specialist insurance policy aimed towards photographers. Standard travel insurance will NOT cover that amount of gear and it's usually got restrictions on single items, the amount of items you can claim for and the circumstances under which something happened to them. Some insurance policies will even exclude things such as photographic equiptment as it is a liability to them (insurance companies are just the worst) so make double damn sure that you've got it covered correctly, for both domestic and foreign situations.

I took my insurance for camera gear out with Aaduki. They accepted eBay emails and TP forums/PMs as proof of purchase for my 2nd hand stuff. I had to provide them with serials when I took out the policy and also had photos of all my gear.

They covered it all under a new-for-old policy so when I was burgled the claims process was actually hassle free. Now a month later I have a full and comparable set of gear already.

I'd thoroughly recommend them. My home insurance still hasn't paid out on the jewellery that was stolen but I'm able to go to Silverstone tomorrow with all the camera kit that I'd intended to.

Thanks David, I'll look into them when I get home. I'm phoning up my contents insures later as I might be covered with them. I have cover for home but not sure about abroad.
