No its not silly... If you have a camera with a night mode, usually it has a picture of a moon and a persons head.. that keeps the shutter open longer i think and uses flash..but dont quote me on it

Its really simple, I use it if I cover small hardcore/metal gigs that have poor lighting. All you need to do is.. Use a long shutter speed, aperture to suit how much ambient light you would like, then use your flash on manual and play around with the settings as it depends on where you are and...
