    Anyone else use 500px?

I've just signed up. First impressions are quite good, I much prefer the design to Flickr, but the uploader seems to be a bit buggy; it sometimes takes me multiple attempts to get a photo uploaded. Here's my link: http://500px.com/tjones, and I'm following a few from this thread too.

    Nikon 50mm f1.8 afs

Cropping won't affect the depth of field. If you were to crop the 50mm so the field of view were the same as a 55mm lens, then the depth of field would also look like that from a 55mm lens. You've just effectively magnified the image. Besides, the difference you're talking about is so small...

    Nikon 50mm f1.8 afs

Is this a joke? If not then I suggest you just crop the images to get the result you want.

    Lens hire.

I hired a Canon 17-55 f/2.8 for a wedding and used it on a crop body. I found the flexibility of the zoom useful, so I'd go for the Nikon equivalent. On the other hand if lighting will be bad and you don't have a flashgun it may be worth going for a prime.

    Lens Hire

I've used Lenses For Hire a few times and can recommend them. I know nothing about LensPimp.

Well I placed an order on Wednesday morning for the soft ND grad set at teamworkphoto.com and it arrived on Friday morning.

    cycling questions/ bike set-up...

If you're doing a long ride such as this then I'd say get a road bike soon and start riding it to get used to the position. If you've not ridden one before then it can take a while to get used to. I don't see why you shouldn't ride in the drops; I find that position quite comfortable.

    Richmond Park access?

I do a lot of cycling there at various times of the day and night, and can confirm that the pedestrian gates are open 24/7 all year round, apart from when there's a deer cull (September and February I think). The opening and closing times only apply to cars.

What is wrong with my camera and how can i fix it???

I know of someone who had this problem with a Sony camera (don't recall the model) and it was indeed because of this. It had to go back to Sony for repair.

What is you favourite focal length?

28mm prime on 1.6 crop is mainly what I use.

    Eye 'floaters'

I have loads in both eyes, all shapes and sizes, and have had them for as long as I can remember. I used to get very annoyed by them but not so much any more. I went to see an ophthalmologist about them. He had a look with a slit lamp and said he could see I had loads, but it was nothing to...

First Year of University - My 365

If you're sharing files internally on the network then it'll be fine. When I was at university we used all sorts like DC++. The network admins only really care if it's using the Internet connection heavily or if it's actually causing problems. I found that out the hard way!

    DOF Preview

This is true. The following proves it: Manually focus your lens on some text, and then move it out of focus until you get to the point where you can just about read the text. Then take a photo at about f/2.8. When I do this, the text in the photo is far too blurred to make out, but I could...

    House of Lords

I've been to both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It was a while ago and I didn't take a camera, but I don't think you'll be able to take any in the House of Lords.
