i bought a tokina 11-16mm f2.8 a while ago. it took me a while to get used to the wideness of it. i was disappointed wityh most of my shots. it took me a good few months to learn how to use it. once i did - wow, this is an awesome lens. i love the f2.8.
how is the 12-24 treating you?
anyone in your position (new to dlsr's) should buy the 50mm f1.8 - it is such a great little lens, especially when you consider how cheap it is.
when it comes to something longer for wildlife i would really advise you to wait and buy something decent.
alternatively i have the canon 100mm f2.8...
would be keen to get peoples thoughts on the trip - i've been debating getting one for a while.....i currently have an olympus xa2 - what differences would i see inn the results i get between this and a trip (apart from narrower focal point)?
i get most of my best pics on holiday - i wouldn't dream of not taking at least my body & 50mm.
as suggested be wary when leaving it in an appartment (often unsecure) or obviously on the beach if swimming.
i use a timbuk2 bag hacked for my cameras.
i use a medium messenger bag which works great for one body and a couple of lenses. a large messenger would am sure easily fit two bodies and a few bits of glass.
to me the great benefit of this solution is you can use the bag easily for non photo...
50mm is all i have at the mo - lent the rest of my glass out to my dad!
hmmm have tickets for the england game on weds so debating whether to take the cam???
markets are always good to find character worthy of these types of shots. oh and they tend to be busy hunting out bargains so tend not to notice you so much!
it can be hard though. i often it the streets and come back empty handed (apart from my camera of course!_)
