Critique my 2 year in the making website please?

Thanks for the replies. Regarding two years and only a few images, I've a lot more images on my flickr site, the ones on the main website are just temporary while I try and get a site together. Why has it taken 2 years, I guess lack of motivation for website coding! However I'm still not happy...

Critique my 2 year in the making website please?

I think I'm slowly getting a website together, even though it's been two years in the making! Currently I'm using pixelpost with switchy theme, the site is below: http://www.brianinnesphotography.co.uk/ Any / all feedback welcome. Not many photos on the site, I'm mainly using my flickr...

    Does anyone know this location?

I'm sure the CSI labs could figure it out from the reflection on the cars alloy wheels.

    Best netbook ...

I use a Samsung NC10 - mainly for storing photos when I'm out travelling - its certainly very handy being able to check the days shots back at the hotel / B&B on a slightly bigger screen. Also I have tracklogs installed on mine, which is handy for scouting out possible shoot locations!

    Alternative to Lightroom?

I've been having a play with a trial of Bibble Pro 4.10. Looks quite nice, I havent tried Lightroom though (seeing as they don't have a linux version...)

    Linux photo software..??

Not sure if this is any help, but for my photo editing I run Debian 5.02. I use Digikam for photo organisation, from this I edit the photos in gimp (raw conversion using ufraw). Only problem with Gimp is it doesn't (yet) support 16bit image editing, there have been times the extra bit depth...

Scenic locations in Galloway / Stranraer

Joe, cheers for the reply. I'll get an OS map of the area and have a look at those areas. Just hoping for decent weather! (unlike my last trip to Inveraray in May which was pretty wet!)

Scenic locations in Galloway / Stranraer

Managed to get a few days booked in a hotel in Newton Stewart, needing recommendations of nice scenic locations for landscape photography while I'm visiting for 4 days - I'm thinking around about Stranraer, Portpatrick, Mull of Galloway? Thanks in advance!

16bit versus 8bit editing. What a difference 16 bit makes!

Thanks for the replies. I must say that the 16bit processed image was a very quick edit.

16bit versus 8bit editing. What a difference 16 bit makes!

At the moment my photo editing system runs Ubuntu 9.04, and I tend to process my images using a combination of ufraw for the raw conversion, and Gimp 2.6 for the editing. However recently I've been able to get cinepaint 0.25 installed on my system, http://www.cinepaint.org/, and I've had a...

    Mac or PC

Nope, no students. However when you put the cost of lightroom compared to camera body, lenses etc it's actually not that expensive in the long term.

    Mac or PC

Out of interest, despite running linux only for the past 6 years or so, I've actually installed a 2nd hard drive, and made a small partition for windows 7 RC. Whether I'll wipe my linux install and migrate to 100% windows, I'm unsure at the moment, I'd certainly need to think about my...

Well done Ged, hope you manage to save up for your DSLR!

Landscapes... Often Uninspired... No WOW factor!

Well, I'm learning now to bin shots rather than saving everything! Also technical wizardry doesn't magically transform a bad shot into a good one, e.g. an infra red poor scene is still a poor scene, as is a poor multi image panoramic. Still the good thing about landscape photography is it...
