Where to go from a 550D?

I have a 550d, and agree can be a fiddle, but isn't that the point of photography, the fact that against some odds, you capture an awesome moment. What I would say is how about using raw, and trying to recover some of the exposures afterwards, there's a lot of detail in there. Also, some of...

    Which lens? 24-70 2.8L or 85mm 1.2L (CANON)

Do you really think that you will be able to get the right focus with a 1.2 when you are out and about, unless you are damn good, that's ain't gonna happen. Echoing what's above, 85 1.8, and 24-70 and think about composition rather than getting half of someones face in focus.

    Magazine swap shop

This clearly went down as well as my query about sharing glass in a small group if you all chip in.

    What to use for backups

Three is a good way to go, but remember too they are useless all the same location. I keep one in work, one in house and one in flat, that way you have bases covered.

Dropped My Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS

If your standing outside the leaning tower of Pisa, having driven there from the Uk and drop your camera, ug, that was pretty annoying. So feel for you, hope can get fixed without too much expense. Since got an individual insurance plan for bits just in case. (Dare I say the iphone 4 can get...

    Should i buy a 70-200mm 2.8 II

It's always funny that nobody ever mentions what they actually want to photograph on these threads. As mentioned above, for low light, sports and anything that is a bit more challenging than a well lit day outside with good light then you won't need the 2.8. There is an interesting review...

    Canon 550D or 600D?

They are both good, 550d can be had for good price, I have one and I am wanting for glass not the camera. In the early and mid stages of being into pic taking you are not can slap yourself and think I wish I bought a 600d. Try the kit lens, then treat yourself to the 50mm lens that is 1.8...

    24-70mm f2.8 lenses

Make sure you have a good bag for that. I used to have a cheap bag, and with 24-70 and cam only in there then wondering around somewhere for the day it starts to nag.

    Can't afford an 85mm f1.2 or a tilt/shift lens, fear not, there's always this!

I think CS5 has a feature that lets you selectively blur with the help of some layers. The key to remember is that an 85 1.2 up close has very little of the subject in focus, the eyes are obviously the key to get, but even the profile of cheeks outwards to the ears will slowly fade out...

Rucksac for hiking & carrying gear that's comfortable??

Yep, Lowepro one on there, £180. Ouch.

Loosening a stiff focusing ring on an old lens.

You could try a PTFE spray if you have any, it's a tool spray used on routers, saws etc that is dry and may work. Anything with silicon in avoid as a pig to get off anything it touches.

Ultra Wide Angle (for Canon crop)

The Canon seems good but is a lot of money if the Sigma is pretty close. People state the Siggy is of variable build quality but the 10-22 is not an L piece of glass and compares to my 24-70L feels pretty tacky. If you are going to shell out it could be worth trying to borrow one for a bit to...

Rucksac for hiking & carrying gear that's comfortable??

Check out Bikeradar in the reviews sections, there's a good one in there that is for SLR's that even has a camelpak style drinking section and padding etc, etc. Not cheap at shy of £200 but gets a good review and worth it if weather is less than happy.

    Lens Share Scheme

Hello This may be a stupid question, but has anybody ever set something up between friends or a club where you share buying in for lens. Lets face it, for many of us we don't use everything all the time unless we are pro's. I know I would be happy to pay in to get some lens if I knew some...
