Why I want a D700, Argue with me!

Being argumentative.....go for a D300s or a used D300. I know you said manual focus, but I'm guessing you want AF at some point? The focus points on the D700 are fairly central, they're everywhere on the D300, cant fail to pick one Er...thats about the only real thing I can argue with you on...

I shoot photos for friend's uni project, then he said i don't own the rights of them

Dont go in there guns blazing or you'll end up waving bits of paper around at each other and not fixing the problem. The guy's probably stressing about his project and wants it to be right. Just say to him you'd be fine with holding back release of the photos on your side til he's submitted...

    D90 > D700

The ability to shoot at ISO5000 (and 6400) and get pictures more useable than what a D300 could offer was what sold it to me. There's also an added cleanliness or clarity the D700 has, I guess it's the FX that does it. You will get noise still on underexposed shots, but the noise isnt as bad...

Wide angle on DX - worth it?

The 10-20 is awesome! Some of my best (to me) landscape shots with that lens on the old D300, it does amazing things to skies and you can get your own feet in the picture if you're not careful. Ace lens

    Shading a white seamles

I'd go for either "a bit" or "none" on the background but I'd do it from the key light rather than trying to light a white background. White will go grey (or even black if you want) when there's a lower amount of light falling on it Also on your shot, that looks like rear curtain sync to me...

    Are these any better?

How you know that then? ;) Which gives a very different effect and can alter the tone of the shot. My point wasnt that continuous should always be used over flash, it was that you can use and shape both the source and quality of light for effect to match the type of shot you're after...

    Are these any better?

I saw this mentioned in another thread by a different poster and struggling to understand why people think that. I've lit portraits with flash lighting, continuous lighting, ambient...hell I've even used car headlamps on full beam and got results I'm happy with To me it's a question of being...

    Are these any better?

It's more a question of whether you're lighting with emphasis and/or sympathy or illuminating to the correct exposure for everything infront of you. In the above, you've gone for the latter but would have been better with a main light to one side to avoid the flatness you're getting and not...
