Zoom lens for a Nikon D7100

I can certainly recommend the Nikon 16-85 although second hand ones seem a bit elusive, I managed to pick one up on here

Id second the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4. I have the new version 'Contemporary' lens, and its fantastic.

A fair bit of money, but worth looking at a nikon 17-55 2.8 as well. Superb lens, at a price.

...I was considering the Nikon 16-85mm?
If you'll need wider and a little longer, it's gonna be very expensive! I tell you! :D

Couldn't recommend anything else.

For £500 pounds ish I would be getting the new Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 Art lens...
He'll miss the reach.

And yesterday I heard a horror story of very poor Sigma paintjob! NikonCafe... :suspect:

after looking at some vids im thinking this now, ty :)

Good choice. Although I think Sigma have improved when it comes to quality control in recent years. I would advise that you try and get one from a physical shop if possible.

And, if you get a UK sourced one, Sigma will give you an extra 2 years warranty when you register it on their website.

I have one of these. I find it soft around the edges on the wide end, and and on the other end I sometimes wish it would also go to 2.8. I'm tempted to try the Tamron for comparison, and I know I should have done this before buying...

Iv looked at the tamron and vidoes show it's noisy and a little slow to focus?

I'm really torn

What is the budget, i'd steer clear of the slower 3.5-5.6 lenses from nikon as they seem over priced to me for what you get, have you considered the sigma 18-35mm?
