Zine Swap V: January - November 2022

@myotis - just a word of warning about Publisher, my (admittedly out of date) version of Publisher doesn't allow exporting in CMYK format and unless you provide a printer with a CMYK version there is no saying that the colours in the printed version will be anything like what you expect.

This is true but if your zine is monochrome you will (should) be ok.

Also images that go across page spreads need to be handled with care when uploaded to the printers, care must be taken with what goes in the page bleed.

Affinity Publisher? Mine certainly exports to PDF in CMYK.

Mmmm, I will need to look at that again.

I've downloaded the CMYK icc profile from Mixam and used that profile to set the colour space for the document in Publisher, and the PDF export is set to use the document colour space for the export. Am I misunderstanding how this works.

I'm using the same CMYK profile in Capture One to edit the pictures, so I was hoping for reasonably good colour/contrast matching.

EDIT: The clue should maybe have been in the "out of date" version, did you mean Microsoft Publisher, which I hadn't totally forgotten about. With the recent release of Affinity Publisher 2.0, I misread your out of date comment as meaning Affinity Publisher 1, which I'm still using (even though I have V2 installed. Sorry for misunderstanding.

That should be fine. I think!

OK I'm not going to be able to do this, apologies for my absence and being late with this but a close family member has some health issues which have taken all my time and attention, sorry once again.

I need to apologise to you all, really dropped the ball on this (again). Just haven't checked back here when I should have.

Does that mean you wnat to take part, if you do, PM me your name and address details and I'll update the PMs I've already sent out!
No sorry, it means I've literally done nothing other than think about it a bit! [hangs head in shame]

Is it normal for so many to drop out at this stage? Could the date slide back to January, giving time for more of us to get our acts together?

No, I think this one's been bad for that, we had 9 last time, and have 8 (ish) this time. I'm happy to let it slide to January, but I suspect we would be in the same situation, and I know several people have got their zines ready.

In the first year we did two zines approx 6 months apart, and maybe we should go back to that, as it keeps the focus up a bit, with such a long time from launch to publication, my view is that people just forget about it.

As soon as we reach January, I'll launch a new one with a May deadline, and hopefully if I keep interest up in the thread, invoke some chat, post useful videos, etc, etc, then we may get some commitment :) (new years resolutions and all that.........)

Order placed with Mixam. Went from not having anything to having something in the space of 24 hours. I hope I did everything right but hey ho!

Zines arrive on Monday 28th. Need to buy some envelopes and stamps now.

Just popping in to see how this zine swap is going?
I still wish I could have taken part and I am still very interested in buying any spare copies anyone might have.

I "might" even do some objective reviews as I don't have donkey in this race ;)

Sorry but buying copies is out unless people post them for sale in the classifieds I suppose.

That's absolutely fair enough, the zine swap has never been about that. I just didn't want people to be out of pocket if they are willing to send a spare to a none participant.

See how it goes, I'll happily send you one of mine FOC once I've done everyone else.

Its moving along! Several Zines are in production, mine in nearly there (just the words, but I'vebeen bogged down with quite a bit of 'proper' work this week.

Hope we will see you in the next exchange in the new year :)

This is true, but the promise of a good review might secure you a freebie :ROFLMAO:

ohhh bribery :ROFLMAO:

I'm hoping to send mine out to print later this week. A bit like @Mr Perceptive I'm still playing with the words (and moving the position of the pictures!!). I'm happy to send an extra copy out to @MrDrizz and always glad to receive feedback - good, bad or indifferent.

Wrote loads of words, then deleted them - less is more???? Just need to do a final review, then its off to Mixam later today :)

Just sent mine off after taking a couple more pics at the weekend. Delivery due towards the end of next week.

Just received the first one from @moggi1964, thanks Morris, it looks good but I won't post any spoilers.

Mine came from Mixam yesterday but its likely to be later in the week before I get them in the post.

Awesome! I learned a lot from the process and it has encouraged me to really plan for the next time I make one. 48 hours wasn't enough
