Zine Exchange #10: July - November 2025

All zines posted off today.
Received mine this morning - lovely work, great to see the next Mishmash. Without spoiling it for others a mix of melancholia and nostalgia (at least that's how interpreted it) and a great encounter on a hill.

Greetings to you @Penlens.

I have paid my dues on mine today so will get the copies next Tuesday apparently then into the post...

Thank you @Paul Morgan for your kind words. Looking forward to yours in due course.

I very much enjoyed @Penlens Mishmash III waiting on return from a break away. Thank you

However, picked up a a nasty bout of what I'm assuming is the current Covid variant so I'm now a little behind. The final files should go to the printers tomorrow, so will hopefully still meet the timeline

Good news is my zine has arrived back and they sent 12 copies instead of 10. Bad news is...presumably due to poor layout on my part the pagination is all over the place so I'm going to do it again as soon as I can. Sorry about a further delay - the preview was bob on.

Hi All
I missed out on Zine Exchange 10 unfortunately

I'm just back from my holidays For some dumb reason, my IP address was banned on both laptop & mobile so I couldn't even browse the site, let alone log in to say I wanted to opt in.
Maybe it's for the best though, as there's still actually a bit to be done on it and now work is starting to get really busy.

Hopefully by the time Zine 11 is announced, mine will actually be finished.

The site is frequently attacked by bots and spammers, and certain IP addresses from some countries and certain ISPs are blocked to reduce the problem.

Hi everyone,

@Penlens I got your zine this week, loved it - especially the On Went Hill story.

I have my draft back, got to make a few edits but will order the final copies at the weekend and dispatch to you all next week.

Thank you @kanephotos for your comments. I'm glad you liked it.

Update - Mixam have agreed to reprint when I sent the a video and they compared it to the proof.

However, I have found that when I de-staple the zine and re-order the pages it is right! Problem is the de-stapling then means re-stapling which never quite works as well. Could hand stitch as an upgrade.

Will play with what I have and see if a re-stapled/stitched looks shoddy or not.

Using the three hole sewing method would make a great zine. You can get book binding thread and suitable needles from the excellent bookbinding suppliers: www.hewit.com

The final trimming is after the stapling, therefore the page order change may mean the page edges don't line exactly......but I'm a bit OCD about these things

Get the re-prints & don't waste too much time or thought over it!

Received the excellent zine from @Paul Morgan today. Thank you! Fascinating industrial geology photographs beautifully printed on uncoated paper.

Received the glorious zine from @John Barry today. Than you! An excellent collection of various luminous photographs illustrating so well the 'spirit of place' as well as being superbly printed.

Thank you Julius, happily the printing is now one less thing to worry about.......

I received the amazing and sumptuous zine from @kanephotos today. Thank you so much!

Happy to report the safe arrival of the @Mr Perceptive contribution. A great companion to 'In the Pits' & a fitting conclusion to this exchange

Very much taken with the 1936 Amilcar Pegase & 1907 Stanley Steam Car images - just lovely! Thank you

I received the splendid zine from @Mr Perceptive today. Thank you! Gorgeous monochrome images and good to see some use of film!

This has been another wonderful zine exchange where creativity has responded with extraordinary visions and output.

Dear all, this is to say that I am stepping down from this zine exchange stewardship. My zine work, as such, is continuing to slide steadily in the direction of a stronger mix of text and image, and I am also considering some form of book publication next year. So, if anyone wants to take over the reins, so to speak, do raise your hand.

Julius, firstly thanks for presiding over that last few zine exchanges (and good luck with book venture)

I am happy to take over, I did once in Ian's (@Harlequin565 ) abscence (and have run a similar venture on another forum in the past)

But equally am happy if someone else wants to step up to the plate.

A bit late to confirm - apologies. I have received Sacred Spaces (@John Barry ), Latvija (@kanephotos), VSCC (@Mr Perceptive ) and Mishmash 3 (@Penlens). All fantastic - love the feel of Sacred Spaces and VSCC - the cover finish.

  • Lovely light and colour from the stained glass windows in Sacred Spaces.
  • The B&W of VSCC gives real atmosphere (and being a Morgan nice to see the Morgans).
  • Mishmash 3 - a growing series of images of British life. On Went Hill - quite an encounter.
  • Latvija - the real country, can see why you have fallen in love.
Great work everybody. Looking forward to 11.

I received @John Barry's and @Paul Morgan's this week. Fantastic bits of work.

Paul, I don't know how you managed to do all that (and a bonus zine!) from one short trip. I also learnt a lot reading it.

John, I love the use of shadow/black in your work. The images on pages 3, 9, 10 are absolutely stunning with the blacks. Were you using flash or natural light? Great variety captured as well.
