Zeiss ZX1

Nice to see someone consider something a little different, built in SSD is interesting. Heavy duty in camera processing also potentially interesting but I can only see it working if it 'talks' to an external screen like an iPad or similar. I doubt it will ever be within my budget but the ideas might spread to the more mainstream players. Good luck to them.

My God that web site is an utter disgrace. Tried two browsers and it's a nightmare on them both. God knows how they expect people to buy their stuff if their experience on that site is anything like mine.

I'll try again tomorrow.

Zeiss have announced the Zeiss ZX1 full-frame camera with a 35mm f2.0 lens.
Looks interesting :)

It is interesting (to someone!!), the internal SSD is possible the way forward (though of course some will want dual SSD's :D), the inclusion of Lightroom CC on board is also novel, enabling images to be edited in camera through the touchscreen.

It must be made from unobtainium though, as at 800g its not exactly light!!!

Looks mad! Just wish it had a 50mm lens, in fact I wish someone would make a 50mm fixed lens camera... anyone! :D

Website looks terrifying.

Went over the specs and was thinking this looks great until I read it runs android OS so it can run apps like Adobe CC. That’s not a camera I’d like to own as I’m sure support for the software and the OS versions will become an issue sooner rather than later.

What a poxy website - they lost me.

Stop trying to be "with it" and show us the bloody camera!

Website is a true horror.

I think the camera is mainly a me-too claim just like Sigma did moments ago. There are some good features namely leaf shutter (fast X-sync!!!) and full HD OLED OVF. The biggest drawback is a fixed BORING lens. I take it is is going to be a rich persons toy and a beta test kit before they launch a proper full system some time later. It is looking to get very heated and interesting in the FF market soon.

That's all I see really. It looks like a mock up non existent camera they would throw together for some crappy futuristic movie. The in-cam Photoshop is all gimmick too, I wouldn't fancy PP on a 4" 720p screen

I am happy to accept the "gimmick" as a precursor vehicle to something more useful in the future, and something that would happen during and not post capture. It should be regarded mainly as a marketed concept product. They have absolutely nothing to lose in camera market so they can experiment with whatever bull they fancy.

It's also really ugly IMO, course they can do what they want, whether consumers want what they're experimenting with is another thing.

Indeed. It reminds me of of Sony cameras cloaked as Hasselblads with the most outrageous price tags and exterior design features and I presume nobody every bought them, and in fact the company got bought by the Chinese themselves!!!

Really dire website.

The camera is intriguing though. It's a demonstration of how a smaller player can bundle commodity software technologies around their own lens. Use Android and you get a whole load of other stuff on the menu that you can build in. It gets you the touch screen, development environment, and apps. Light L16 is another company off to the side of the mainstream using Android.

Which goes up (or down) to 1/1000 sec. I cannot see the advantage. It reminds me of my Leica M 6 ...
Flash synch at all shutter speeds. Ability to photograph motion with expressive motion blur but no distortion. Silence. Just off the top of my head. There are more advantages of leaf shutters. Top shutter speed of 1/1000 is fine for nearly all photography. Those very few who actually need faster shutter speeds can always stick to their leviathans.

1/1000, ISO100 wide open on a sunny day is going to overexpose. Leaf shutters otherwise are cool.

Hi, I have this problem with my Leica M 9, which only has 1/4000, if I want to open lenses maximally.

No problems with my SONY A7R2, going up to 1/8000.

(I have nothing against ZEISS. On the contrary, I have many ZEISS lenses. At present, I do not see the superiority
of the ZX1 compared to my Leica M9, Sony A7R2 etc. ... But this is my personal problem, I suppose ---)

Still no news on when the Zeiss ZX1 will be available!

I emailed Zeiss.... and nothing..... nada.... zilch!

Thanks for your inquiry and your interest in our products.
Unfortunately, we do not have further news about the upcoming ZX1 at the moment.

With Best regards
