Anone got this lens?
If so, would you recommend it?
Is it compatible with lee filter system with 82mm wa adapter?

I have drooled over the Zeiss Distagon's for ages and they are probably the best lenses you can buy (in my opinion). I would love one but way out my price range!

Hi Marie

I had one and it works fine with the 82mm swa adapter. It's a cracking lens.I sold mine because I just wasn't using it.It was the lens that showed me that I really prefer a zoom at wide angle settings.I would always grab the 16-35 MK2 over the Zeiss because it gave me more opportunites. If I was going to go MF again I would pick up a Nikon 14-24mm and adapter instead.

Cheers
Gary

Would definitely recommend it - with a 5D mkii itll be an excellent combination (same as I have). Lee 82mm wa adaptor will be fine.

Before buying the Zeiss, I considered the Voigtlander 20mm f/3 but in the end went for the Zeiss because I couldnt find enough info about the Voigtlander, but there does seem to be a more reviews etc around now. May be worth considering if you're not completely set on the Zeiss - reviews and samples seem to show its not quite up to the Zeiss but for less than half the price it could be a decent alternative if the cost of the Zeiss is a factor.

I have a zeiss distagon 21mm ordered, should be here any day now :D
Also just purchased 82mm wa lee adaptor.

Can't wait to try this out :woot:

Congrats! Looking on your website I know that you will enjoy a lot this lens. IMHO it is the best UWA lens and the only regret I have is that I do not use it very often... I love Zeiss glass and I own 21/2.8, 35/2, 50/2 and 100/2... each one is a gem.

That lens will be awesome on your 5D2!!!!

I'm sure you will love it. There are many great reviews on the web. I've got the 35 and 50 and they are superbly built.
Enjoy. :)

In Black & White Photography magazine they reviewed the 25mm Distagon and the guy said it was the sharpest corner to corner lens he had ever seen/used. I had a 50mm f1.4 Zeiss and that was very sharp again from corner to corner.

Its arrived...woohooo!!
The weather up here is atrocious though, so might have to wait before testing it :(

It has fantastic resolution and sharpness. Mechanism is flawless.

I don't like Zeiss look. I wanted to buy a few Zeiss lenses but I'll stick with my old Nikkors for a year or two.

You will love and use that lens for many years :)
You should also consider Zeiss Makro-Planar 100mm (last one) if you need it .

Enjoy!

Send it over here, Marie. I'm only 3-4 hours away and the weather has picked up here!

I'll take that as a no then, shall I? :D

Have fun, you'll love it and what a backyard to use it in! I love Skye and visit as often as I possibly can.

Marie,
where on Skye are you? My sister lives at the bottom of Camus More, down the end of the road at Bornaskitaig (McUrdie's Exhibition and "the campsite by the sea" - that's them!)

Post some pictures taken with it around Duntulm, the basalt stacks sea cliffs and the Quairang fo rme, to bring back some memories! I hope to get up to see them again this year - either on the bike or with a kayak on the roof.

You will love it. To be honest most non photographers probably won't notice the difference in output of the zeiss compared to the cannon and nikon offerings at print sizes up to A4 until you are in a tough lighting situation. You can shoot straight into the sun with all the recent zeiss optics I've tried, and almost no veiling flare.

But they are a joy to use, build quality is phenomenal and large prints are spectacular.

BTW I'm not stalking you lensflare. Maybe I should change my user name LOL.

I'm not far from Portree.
Duntulm/Score bay is one of my fav sunset locations esp at high tide, and quiraing for sunrise of course.
When I get the chance to use the lens I'll certainly post them in the landscape section :)

Thanks - I'll keep my eys open for them. I haven't actually looked in the gallery sections much since being here. Maybe I should spend some time looking through!

I dont always use the gallery to host images, its often a link from my flickr instead.
I dont think many folk on here use the gallery much.

Have you any image examples yet? What do you think so far?

Havent been out yet Andy. Weather's been awful and I'm on call this weekend.
Might manage this evening if I'm lucky ;)

Another one looking forward to you using it. I am going to get one of these, can I ask where you decided to purchase yours from Marie? No worries if you don't want to say.

Since you didn't take up my offer, I've just bought my own - so its all your fault, at least, that's what I told my wife. ;)
fridge, I got mine from Dale Photograhic, but it was their last one. It seems to be in short supply, except on EBay. It was cheaper on there, but only came with a 1 year warranty, compared with 2 years from a normal retailer.

Ffordes and Robert White are both stockists, and both around the same price for Zeiss stuff.

I checked with ffordes as they are my local shop and they don't have it in stock.

Thanks for that, I shall make a mental note to check with them before ordering anything as their website gives the impression that they have them in stock.

I have the 2/35 and am pondering adding one of the wider ones, at the moment the 2.8/25 looks favourite, it's physical size and focal length is more in keeping with what I am after, that and it is less expensive :D

No problem. That's my only complaint about ffordes, they list items, sometimes even used, that are not in stock.
Haven't Zeiss brought out a newer version of the 25mm?

Commercial Cameras at Church Stretton also stock Zeiss. They are an official UK dealer and seem to have decent stocks. I was talking to them on Saturday about a 50mm Sonnar I fancy and they seemed very helpful and knowledgeable. And close at hand for us Wulfrunians (is that right?). Also their prices seem a tad lower than Robert White and the prices shown on their website include VAT.

THe ZF.2 ... basically a ZF.1 with a CPU chip, no optical change, rumour is they are working on an f2 version

Yes I know of them, I did not realise they were Zeiss stockists, thanks for the heads up.

For the record I am fine Gloucestershire stock ... only here for the love of a good woman :D

Blimey, she must be a very good woman

Walthamstow born and bred. I came up this way for a job in 82 and have been here ever since. Must make an escape plan and start tunnelling.
