Yv's 52 - Week 9 - Play

Beautiful Yv and spot on for the poem
I'm not sure if you've deliberately desaturated it or if that's the effect of 18 hours on a radiator, but it's worked really well.

When I first looked at it I hadn't realised that it was on snow and I was wondering what that contrasty, textured bit under the Rose head was :bonk:. Of course after reading I know that it's icy snow, but I wonder if you'd sprinkled a little snow on top of the Rose (as if it had just landed there) if that would give the image a little more context without the need for a description????

Love the rose, glad to see you resisted the temptation to put colour back in later! Very well taken and great compostion too.

Week one? Sneaky use of the crowbar as has been said - sets the standard quite high for later in the year!

week 1 - Like the curves and I love pictures of how places used to look.

week 2 - glad only 1 roses suffered for your art ! Nice use of DOF.

Just catching up on everyone (and it's only been 2 weeks!)

Interesting history for your first image.

A great image for week 2, really suits the poem and it's a nice change to see a less perfect flower after you see so many lovely ones on here:lol:. I just think you could have made a tiny bit more of the snow as it can take a while to notice, having said that it still looks great as it is:thumbs:

Yv,

Love the poetry shot, the DoF is spot on as is the state of the rose  I also love how you got the big talking point of the week into the shot. That's something I really should start to try to do too when possible.

The only thing that's not quite clear is the fact it's on snow and cold, I'd love to see a little frosting of the rose. I've no idea how to achieve this but perhaps a quick light water spray and then in the freezer on fast freeze for a couple of hours and then on the snow

Yv, love the Curves shot, even though it's crowbarred in :D

But, as you said they are your :rules:

Now Poem, I love that representation. Composition and Dof are spot on but I too hadn't noticed it was on snow :bang:

Great start to your 52 and glad you decided to join the party :clap:

Many thanks everyone!

I did think about sprinkling snow on the rose, but it had hardened too much and had got beyond sprinking so just lay the rose on it. Yes it's marginally desaturated, deliberately to increase the dying but not dead look and even looking back at it now with several days hindsight, it is probably still pretty much where I wanted it to be. Wish I had thought of Simon's water spray/freezer thing though, I might have had to harm TWO roses in the making of this shot

I have avoided everyones threads so far this week as I had an idea of what I wanted to do for chopped and didnt want to see something else, or worse, a better version. :baby:

There is no denying this is definately 'chopped', my favourite large chefs knife did the dreadful deed, then the genetic mutation revealed itself...or maybe it's just 'photo-chopped' :D

It does mean we are probably on chicken for dinner tonight  Not sure this is as good as I wanted it to be, and it's a shot I may revisit using different fruit at some point. I chose tomatoes and lemons just for the similarity in shape and nice contrasting primary colours but I think there is much more to be had from this when I have more time to play. The hard part was getting them in roughly the same alignment. Shot the lemon first then used skewers to hold the tomato in roughly the same position so that when I came to combine the two, the sliced surfaces were at same angles-ish to make the merging easier. Left hand one looks better than right to me - need to improve ps skills probably. Shot on kitchen table, no fancy lighting just slow shutter speed, f8 and a tripod; fruit on a peice on matt printing paper.

TFL and will spend sometime this weekend commenting on everyone elses

nice and simple, great idea colours work well together.

first post using new phone(htc hd2)

Hahaha, great idea implemented well.
Good colours and very on-theme! :-)

Very nice that lady!

Awesome clever idea too!

That has come out superbly. I have never really delved into still life photography but if you can get results like that using simple means that I may need to try it

thats great.. lemons featured in my chopped photo too, but my white backgrounds are blah!.. excellent idea I love it :D

Excellent Yv, thats a terrific idea and well excuted too - like it lots

Love it,
I think its well exicuted. you can't tell its been photo chopped !!

I'd like to have a go at this one day.
I'm assuming you took the time to get both lemon & tom' in same position to save using the 'transform' function.

i would have used a slower shutter on my carrot but it was swinging or spinning on the thread it was hanging from.

Love the Rose shot also.

Oh I LIKE that!

Really nicely done Yv. (Not even shot mine yet!)

Nice, technically and artistically - as you say the rh one is a little out but not by much and nowhere near enough to make it hard to look at. Love the lighting too, even the little shadow... if you lost it you would lose a little depth.

Arthur

That's spot on that is. I love the whole package the idea and the execution.

Wow, playing catch up already.

Week 1 I can see loads of curves in this photo so I do not see the need for the crowbar.

Week2 Love the poem and the image fits really well.

Week3, Had to look at it a couple of times to realize what you had done. its a great shot and idea.

I know what you mean, I am having to go round and comment on more than one shot in many threads Dave. I apologise to anyone I haven't got to yet, but it is very heartening seeing so many people having a go at doing this

Thank you for the added comments on 'chopped', I suspect week 4 won't be so much 'fun' but will be equally 'trying' - either for me to take or you poor sods having to view :D

very clever Yvonne i really like that...looking forward to seeing others

Great shot Yv. Took me a few seconds to realise what was wrong with it.

Playing catch up here... so here goes:
Week 1 - I just LOVE old pictures, so this is perfect for me, crowbar or not! Excellent :)

Week 2 - liking the shot and the poem, it took me a little while to realise it was on snow and I was wondering what fancy surface you'd got hold of

Week 3 - Very clever! I'll be trying this myself as soon as I find some time, thank you for the idea and inspiration! :) Can't see anything wrong with the photo chopping either, so well done for making them fit together so seamlessly :)

I like your chopped Yv :) Clever idea (I had bought lemons and limes of the same sizes with a similar idea in mind but gave that up :)) However the combination you have chosen has worked much better and is a more original take than I had in mind!

Great colours, nicely done :)

I can't believe how many different takes there are on Chopped, I really like this one, even though I'm slightly disturbed by the thought of the Frankenfruit! :shake:

Good idea and well taken / PP'd:thumbs:
