I'll be working quite a bit near Ieper (Ypres) next year and will have a few weekends free. I will have access to a car.

Can anyone recommend any good sites for photography?

Will definitely be heading to Tyne Cot and the Menin Gate. Are there any permits needed or recommended locations to shoot from?

If you visit the War Graves Commission web site http://www.cwgc.org/ you can buy a Michelin map with all the cemeteries marked on it, costs £7.00 and well worth it, the cemeteries are marked in purple dots ( well they were on mine) and its very sad looking at them.
Go and see the Newfoundland Cemetery, but take a box of tissues!

You might have a look here: http://www.1914-1918.net/onthetrail/index.php/visit-the-battlefields/. The writer is a tour guide - I have no connection with him or his business - but there's a fair bit of information on the site. I don't remember any particular restrictions or requirements for photography - a lot of areas were returned to agriculture and/or rebuilt for residential use within a short period - but it's a long time since I've been in Flanders. I'm sure others with more recent experience will advise.

Make sure you visit the Last Post ceremony at 8pm every night. Very moving.
