So.. to those who aren't married yet and are wedding photographers, or at the very least fully appreciate what's involved etc... who will do your photography? What will your budget be?

Those that are.. who did you use?

It's funny one because I think we're all critical of each other and so the people we may like to use will invariably land in the higher budget scheme of things... arrrgh.. Maybe even colleagues and friends don't quite do the same thing we envision... Does this make sense?

This quote on another thread got me thinking about this again:

organise a group meet for the wedding, only proviso free photos:D

Last one I used the 'tog who had a shop up the road from us. I was much younger and naive those days.

Next one? My old man is a dab hand;)

Seriously, if I were to get married again, and I really do mean this, I would invite you lot! Well 5 or 6 of you anyway ;)

Free booze and food would be supplied, in return for free PP'd files :D

Gary.

Hmmm I don't think I have enough TP clout to be able to invite my top 5 off here ;) But yes that would work for me!

My nearest and closest, friendwise and locationwise is this chap (I don't want to spend his usual rates ***!) and I know he is well experienced, well equipped etc etc...

If I wasn't already married and money was no object, I'd probably choose Jeff Ascough.

I got married before I really got into photography though and just used someone cheap. They were good, but not brilliant, but for the price they should have charged more than we paid so I can't complain. I'm not going to post the name though as they don't do weddings anymore.

I forgot the name of mine arghh but he was very profressional, had a sit down with us ages ago, wants a list of photo's that we want etc, I wasn't into photography when we selected him but it was almost instant, pretty dear though, 1200 quid for a day,

I'd pass out single use cameras to everyone and collect them all after, pick the best shots out of the bunch :)

We used a guy local to us. All ready had him in mind, as I'd seen his work before. Went for a chat to discuss what we wanted and looked at some more portfolios, booked him there and then. He used a film medium format and his daughter was on a DSLR.

Booked a £800 package but ended up spending about £1000 with all the extras we wanted afterwards (which was quite a bit).

Glad we spent the money, really pleased with the quality of the pictures and the album.

Pete Carr's doing mine whether he likes it or not ;)

Jess Ascoughs done some brilliant stuff, but prices start from £3250. Hmmm, not that good after all :D:D

It's not my wedding but I am thinking the same thing for my sons christening next weekend... Do I hire a tog, ask a friend, put a request out on here????

If it was my wedding I would use this guy, his work rocks.. - Jason lee

i would use the hospital photographer....

You know what, I have a good friend who takes some awesome pictures with a Bridge, guessing I may just give her my kit bag, a few hundred quid and go for it - having said that she should really be stood next to me - umm, she is lovely :)

Photography is obviously very important to all of us, so I would hire a tog who's work I have looked at and really like - pro or not, just someone with a thoroughly grounded portfolio.

Such as Pete Carr (just looked at his site, blew me away), Jason Lee's (site and pictures are friggin awesome, Charlotte Geary, Duncan Kerridge or a few people I know around where I live. (Sorry for stealing some of your links, but they really do take lovely shots)...

Not that it's ever likely, but I'd have a few mates doing it. Seriously.

Well the chances of me and Mr LL actually bothering to tie the knot are remote, but if we did, I would be asking Colin [Hacker] from here as main tog and his choice of assistant if he wants one, at whatever his going rate is. I like what he does and his processing and with some pre-wedding discussions that would do for me. I suppose the fact that I just dont 'DO' weddings is an advantage because I can sit back let someone that does just get on with it.

Damien Lovegrove.........I spent a day with him at the Annabel Williams Studios in the Lake District and this guy produces stunning and original images.

I'm getting married in May, my bride-to-be is quite keen for me to ask around and hire a couple of amateur togs that are looking to gain experience in wedding photography.

Reason being, we're not really that fussed about having top quality standard photographs of the day..

..and, the standard of the photos from a couple of weddings I recently attended (that were shot by 'pros' with 'years of experience' may I add) were genuinely shocking quality

Having 2 keen (and fearless :)) togs seems a good idea as there will be less pressure for them rather than if someone was working on an individual basis.

So, if anyone fancies rising to the challenge, we shall be formally asking for help once the festive period is out of the way so watch this space.

I think my first choice would be two lecturers from the college I went to, who do weddings as well or if the budget was tighter one of my friends who has just started doing weddings, as he gets more experience he may end up being the first choice!

When we renew our vows I will hopefully have enough budget to book our very own Weddinghack :D I would probably even do the whole thing closer to him just to ensure we could get him to come and capture our day

if money were no object, i'd see if Rankin would do it.

my soon to be brother in law was determined to be his own wedding photographer, i am now the tog + 2 tog friends

Seriously though, by the time I get married, I would hopefully be very good friends with more than a couple of people on here, I would be more than happy for them to do it :)

Very few pro studios guarantee you personal coverage of the proprietor..
Checkable by looking at a selection of their web-sites and see how many mention this :suspect:

[S1]So, who is actually going to be taking your pictures?[/S1]
It's not much good if you find out on the day, that the person you thought you had booked, is not going to be covering your wedding :bonk:
It's amazing the number of clients I had who never dreamt of asking this question..
Moral : do not assume anything :rules:

Wow, thank you very much Yvonne, that's made my weekend!

But, but... have you SEEN his avatar? He'd do you no favours

;)

if we were to get married again:bonk:, it would be exhausting. running backwards and forwards to the tripod. composing the shots and setting the timer.
my mrs is so picky about her work, i doubt she'd let anyone else do it .
it wouldnt be "just right" for her.
